WHY is the md11 a size D and not a size E aircraft? Given it’s size, I would expect it to be a size E aircraft. Any conversation is welcome. Thank yall.

Wing span is what defines the category.
Class D = 36 m but < 52 m, class E = 52 m but < 65 m
Wingspan of an MD-11 is 51.66 m. So it is in class D - but only just.
