Location (City, Country)
Managua, Nicaragua
Airport Type & Size
Single runway airport with a 2,442m long runway, 7 gates with jetways and 20 stands for aircraft.
Why should this airport be added to World of Airports?
The gateway to Nicaragua, it would be a fun generic airport for Central America, allowing for cargo and pax operations.
Major Airlines & Routes
Copa Airlines, Avianca, American Airlines, United. TACA used to be the main airline after taking over NICA (Nicaragüense de Aviación). The airlines regional ops are current La Costena which wasn’t absorbed by TACA. TACA would make for a good regional airline as well as Avianca which took over TACA but has since stopped operating from the airport.2017,

Unique Features or Challenges
Can be very wet during the rainy season, has a runway which would require aircraft to turn around at one end, quite a short runway for 747-8F’s which wouldn’t be able to operate long distance due to weight. Has both cargo and passenger operations. Landing is over the city if coming from the west, with lots of interesting terrain, though likely too far out.
