Why should this airline be added?
Born in 1993 and headquartered in Orlando, Florida, AirTran came to life due to a group of small airline owners, failed/failing budget airline operators and supposedly a group of ex-Eastern Air Lines pilots who wanted to get an airline running to compete with the legacy carriers. In 1997, the airline was purchased by the owner of the failing Valujet which it merged into AirTran and renamed itself, which drew a lot of condemnation as it seemed the struggling airline had bought a smaller rival and disappeared under their brand, especially considering that one reason Valujet was struggling was due to an accident in 1995 which was caused by poor maintenance and resulted in a few hospitalisations, then a fatal accident in 1996 caused by Valujet illegally shipping chemical oxygen generators in the hold, which caused a fire and resulted in 110 deaths.AirTran continued to operate and expanded quickly, moving its main hub to Atlanta, with Orlando remaining the HQ and a base, as well as opening new bases in Milwaukee and Baltimore, whilst also operating nearly 150 aircraft across the East Coast and conducting flights to the West Coast, Mexico and the Caribbean. In 2010, the airline was purchased by Southwest and then wound down until 2014 when it ceased to exist.
This airline would add another livery to players airports and is one a lot of Americans will remember, plus it flew into MSY & IAD from ATL so a in a βwhat if?β scenario it would be well suited.
