I’m still relatively new to the game and I’m currently wondering what the advantage of owning my own planes is?
The planes you get when leveling up are completely white at first, and I prefer the planes of real airlines. I also don’t see any advantage in assigning contracts to my own planes compared to the generated contracts which I can accept. I haven’t noticed any difference in income or XP yet. Am I missing something that owning my own planes offers?
At the moment I would say it´s better to sell the aircrafts, take the money and use the generated contracts instead.
So you’re right - for smaller planes and smaller journeys there isn’t much benefit, but when you get to bigger planes and journeys you get much more revenue for your own planes compared to “official” airlines.
You can play without your own airline, but it makes the game more fun if you: send others planes or handle planes for others (and get the rewards for doing so).

Depends on how you like to run your game. I prefer irl liveries and airlines, but it doesn’t net you as much profit both in green coins and silver ones which is where I use my own fleet. 747s and A380s are your biggest money makers on that front. If you fancy throwing your hand in to compete with the current airlines, it can give you that ability too, sort of RP’ing. I have on a lot of my airports sold the smaller aircraft as they take up space and feel like a higgledy piggledy mix of types but it can be quite good for airports where those sort of type are regulars.
I’d recommend running a mix and sending your own planes to other players as it doesn’t cost wollars then, as well as potentially selling a couple to help build the airport up near the start.

Compare the 2 777-300ER’s here one is a player and the other is a airline its a huge difference with wollers your making.

one thing to note Hiro, Wollars are massively boosted but SP is NOT boosted when operating player flights vs normal ones.
