AirAsia X formed a sponsorship with the Oakland Raiders, an NFL team, in June 2009, marking the first time an Asian airline sponsored an NFL team. AirAsia X featured a special Oakland Raiders livery on the Airbus A340-300 and named it “Xcellence”, which landed at Oakland International Airport for the first time in September 2009. AirAsia X kept this livery up until June 2012, when it was reverted to an all-white livery and was to be leased to Saudia.
