You aren’t quite grasping what a codeshare is are you?
We have American flight numbers on BA flights at MAN, and American don’t fly to MAN anymore…

How can lingus operate a flight for qatar to LHR ?
Or that EI code on a Ryanair flight (even at south gates which is exclusive for Aer Lingus) that I caught today
Yeah that is just ridiculous
Ok so I did a bit of research and it seems like Aer Lingus wet leased a few Ryanair aircraft to operate some flights and same with Privilege Style and DAT, due to pilot industrial action, so although it won’t be on all EI flights, I now know this is not the only example.
Ohh that makes sense. But it still will never explain the qatar callsign on a flight to lhr
It’s a codeshare. It just means EI is flying a route on behalf of said airline, but said airline takes credit with the callsign, and whatever financial, legal, or other benefits come with it. I’m not sure why airlines do it, but it may be worth a Google. In this case, the QR9671 is actually flight EI178.
@Slu82 for is this you? Could start or finish a poem there!
It’s from LHR… shouldn’t it have a registration that starts with G?
Registrations won’t show up unless I accept it.
Oh whoops! I thought Slu82 was the registration .

Qatar Airways owns 25.2% of the IAG, so if you look at other airlines within the group they most likely codeshare with Qatar Airways as well.
Many on here don’t understand what a code share is
Wikipedia is your friend
Think of it this way. Codeshares allow airlines to fly wider networks than their own aircraft allow. By utilizing other metal it allows them to sell tickets to the destination without having to supply their own aircraft to do it.
You don’t necessarily even have to be “friends” to do it. Jetblue for example has a new code share with BA for connections or places that BA would never be able to fly. Airlines share the revenue and often allow the usage of mileage agreements on code share flights. It can be quite lucrative.
And some say the power of friendship is useless
