Haha. I think that the devs seem to be de-emphasizing Africa for now, so I’m not expecting anything from there any time soon, but when we do get one I think it would be logical to expect two. One central or southern and one northern. They tend to release regions now, not isolate airports. Think GRU-SCL, SXM-MSY, and HKG-BKK-CNN.

I can’t lie though I think I would rather something like JNB or ADD, or even CMN rather than Zurich. I dont think its a horrible pick but there are already 3 airports in that region of europe with BRI not far off and INN is literally a 3 hour drive away. I mean if we’re getting another European one I would rather it would be in one of the untouched regions like the grece/turkey region or spain/portugal region.

I kind of agree, although I think it will be very pretty. After this though I think stopping with European airports would be nice tho.

To put into perspective how close they are, you can literally see the mountains that surround Innsbruck from the airport :joy:

Innsbruk is just a little bit past there

A good snowy Northern European airport would be nice, as would one in Iberia and Greece/Montenegro sort of region. But agree, one in Central America would be a blessing as well as Africa.

If generic’s haven’t been Old Yeller’d, I hope they get used for a few Central African airports to get some connectivity going.

From Montenegro TGD will be nice, this airport will be nice as generetic.

Yeah but Europe changes so much in 3 hours, you’ve gone through 3 different countries, Forrests, city’s mountains and plains! In the US you drive for 3 hours you’ve only gone from Dallas to Houston!

Honestly I was ready for an African airport
I was surprised to see it being ZRH

I’m incredibly intrigued by ZRH if it does end up being next. It has a super interesting runway operations with the crossing runways and midfield terminal. Could be incredibly interesting depending on how realistically runway ops is modeled.

Though I am inclined to agree that it would be nice to fill in some spots in the Americas (Canada / Central America / more South America) and Oceania (New Zealand anyone?) as well!

My thoughts on Africa is I’d love to see North Africa, primarily for more connectivity to Europe, but its not a region I’m desiring much.

Hello everyone,

We’ve noticed an increasing number of questions and requests regarding airports in regions such as India and Africa, and we’d like to address this openly and honestly.

World of Airports is a free-to-play game, but behind it stands a small, independent development team. Creating a new airport is a large project that takes several months of work, involving research, 3D modeling, optimization, testing, server infrastructure, and ongoing support.

While the game itself is free, its development and operation are not. Every new airport must help cover:

  • development time and salaries,
  • server and database infrastructure,
  • platform fees (Apple / Google),
  • and ongoing maintenance and support.

When we decide which airports to develop, we have to carefully balance player interest, technical feasibility, and long-term sustainability of the game. Some regions have very large and passionate player communities, but unfortunately also lower overall monetization, which makes it difficult for us to expand there as quickly as we would like without putting the future of the game at risk.

This does not mean these regions are unimportant to us. On the contrary — we see the interest, and we truly appreciate the enthusiasm and feedback. However, to keep World of Airports alive and improving for everyone, we must grow in a way that is financially sustainable.

That said, we are actively thinking about fair and reasonable ways to make future expansions possible for more regions without compromising the stability of the project. Progress may be slower than some would wish, but it is done with the long-term future of the game in mind.

Thank you for your understanding, your passion, and for being part of the World of Airports community

Thanks for the transparency Charlie, it’s much appreciated

I do wanna iterate that me saying I was surprised doesn’t mean I’m disappointed, but I guess I kept the idea from a previous post mentioning the interest in introducing an African airport in the game to cover all continents.

As someone who used to be active as a contributor for flight sim related products I understand how much goes on behind the scenes and definitely do not take all that work for granted

I apologize if I misread or misunderstood that statement but reading your post, maybe it will happen some day. But ZRH would be a welcome edition.

Thanks for the link! And any airport would be amazing, but Singapore would be special

Crazy to think HKG was just released a few days ago and we already know the next airport! Kuba definitely folded into some journalistic pressure there  Keeps the hype up!

I’m taking it with a grain of salt until they start dropping more official hints that confirm it. There’s been other airports mentioned in the past by Kuba as coming that still haven’t actually been released. But if ZRH does end up being next… I ain’t complaining. It looks like a terrific airport.
