I changed it back for you. I assume the mods are okay with it because they approved the post as it was, so I hope itâs okay.
What âforum bugâ? You could have just changed it yourself and stated why you had the wrong flag, Iâd have no problem whatsoever with that, sorry for trying to help!?!
And what do you mean please show respect, trying to correct info is disrespectful now?
Not a forum bug, but it is weird that all members with a 3rd or higher level of trust can rename all posts when even the author sometimes canâtâŚ
He felt a bit attacked by the fact that you corrected him and didnât say anything. I think that is probably the reason why he was mad. However, I do agree with you on the point of respect. You didnât disrespect him whatsoever, and so I think the fact that he says âShow some respectâ. Itâs really some terrible self-pride. Humble yourself, @Defoe and remember we are all on the same level here besides the mods. Nobody has any hierarchy over others. So donât ever say show some respect unless he actually disrespects something. All @Jamesonplanes did was help you!!!
Yeah thatâs quite odd
Well said, no need for argument!
After a period of time, the author of a post in this forum is barred from editing his own post, but many random strangers like you can. This is a bug. A permission you shouldnât have.
I thank you for your good intention of âcorrectingâ my work. Check the editing history, you werenât the first one. But before âcorrectingâ someone, please at least make sure you have the correct information and better ask the author to change it to what you think is right.
A flag is the identity of the people who were born, lived, and risked their life to defend. Bad actors and my ignorant fellow countrymen often trample my British Hong Kong identity. Your act certainly hit my soft spot. It resembled the real-life historical mistake, and to me, a betrayal and banishment by my countrymen. I might have overreacted, but Iâm glad that I still stand when people try to edit us out of existence. It was very offensive for you to insert my enemy flag on me. I hope you understand.
Now, let me give you a history and public international law lecture. Hong Kong during Kai Tak era was a Crown Colony or a British Dependent Territory, similar to the Crown Dependency of Isle of Man although it can be a lot more complicated than that. A territory owned by our late Queen (yes! owned!), but not part of the UK. It was taken from the Manchurian conqueror. Citizens of her land were born British, born subjects to the Monarch like you and me, and we still are. Like most of these former British lands, we used a variant of these Union Jack corner flags.
The British Hong Kong flag emoji has been wiped from existence; most of you young fellows might not have even seen it if you donât know ICQ and MSN. The forum doesnât support markdown language on post titles. There is no way for anyone to display the correct flag with an emoji, not you, not me, not even for the mods. If you really want to help, write to the Unicode Consortium, tell them to reinstate my flag.
You may argue that the communist Hong Kong flag is also correct, because Kai Tak did run till 1998. But saying that also implies that you are ignorant about the event. Chek Lap Kok was ready, tested and was originally planned to open and replace Kai Tak on January 1997, six months before the giveaway. The pro-China MPs at the time wanted it to open after China takeover to give them face. The Brits agreed as part of the sellout deal for British companies like Cathay Pacific to retain exclusive trading rights for more years to come. While Chek Lap Kok is indisputably correct to use the communist Hong Kong emoji flag as all of itâs commercial operation timespan was using that flag; Kai Tak is otherwise. For 69 out of 73 years of Kai Tak, the British Hong Kong flag was hoisted alongside the British flag. The second longest was the Japanese Imperial flag for almost 4 years. The communist Hong Kong flag only goes to the third for one year.
Lastly, in the Developers Q&A last year, Kubasan has already said that Kai Tak in WoA will have the correct British-era flag. Editing my post with your choice of communist flag without asking was indeed very offensive to me, and you showed no respect to our developerâs bold and honourable decision.
It is always arrogant to fight. But if one day our
is banned on our small island, and a
or whatever hostile flag is inserted on your front yard, against your will, and you are not allow to take it down. I hope that you will be arrogant like I did.
It is normal to respect objective historical facts without involving certain factors.
A cool idea for a camera, could have it sitting atop Kowloon Walled City which was only demolished in 1993 by the British authorities.
