Yeah it’s me again. Back for another blog entry.
This time it’s to reflect on recent happenings and to remind folks of a few things.
The whole situation with the new feature request system is something I’d rather not see happen again. Myself and @ukplanespotter757 had to deal with over 500 new user requests and post requests at one time which for 2 of us (mostly, although Kuba helped us out a lot too) was a tough mountain to crack.
Following a previous set of spam attacks we set user approval on, meaning nobody joins the site without being reviewed, that’s on us but it was still a hell of a lot to wade through to make sure there weren’t bots etc signing up.
Then there was all the new entries and voting. I’m not going to get into that because it’s been discussed elsewhere, but suffice to say. Great to see the engagement but let’s spread the love around the world a bit.
Also, certain categories require pre-approval before posting, this is to make sure the post is appropriate to the topic and in the right place. The system bot picks this up for us to review. We get to them as quickly as we can.
One thing folks may not know is that admin and mods have the power to change pretty much anything on the site. Posts (even after being posted on a topic) user names, comments, tags. You name it. We can move topics across categories when we don’t feel they are in the right place and to keep the site clean. We also have the power (and only admins/mods have it) to suspend and ban people as appropriate.
Thankfully we have only ever had to ban 5 people and we have a bunch more on a long term silence. But make no mistake. We give people latitude as much as we can on a worldwide platform, but we will not hesitate to use the tools available to us if we need them. Everyone is on notice.. keep it civil or you may not like the result. Any comment can be flagged for review and we will determine what action to take.
That said we don’t have a lot of that, but we know who the troublemakers can be and keep a close eye on activity.
But as I said most stuff is few and far between and we appreciate everyone trying to be good to each other. Certainly makes my life easier in particular as I have a 60 hour a week day job and I know my partner in crime appreciates the quiet times too..
In a crazy world it’s great to have this corner of it and if we can all get along, so much the better.
It truly is “One world separated by a comment box” and i for one am proud of what we do here..
Until next time..
