#12 - Summer, SCL and Directories…

Yes it’s that time again. Summer in the Northern Hemisphere, people are working through SCL and what? Directories? What’s that all about.

So here’s the thing. You may have seen from the number of Wiki topics and Feature request topics. That frankly there are an awful lot of both…
Thanks to the ongoing work from @Thatflyerguy , @T3X45ranger , @sar , @ukplanespotter757 @focuseddictum70 and @dh16dh in particular, we now possess some fantastic information about much of the game, by aircraft, by airport.

So much so that we decided to create a Wiki Directory so that you can easily find them if you need them. It’s truly been a huge lift and I can’t thank the team of editors enough for the hard work and organization.
Directory can be found Here

Now also as you know there has been a new feature request section set up and it’s been very popular, again so much so that there are literally hundreds of individual entries.
As a result we have been getting duplicates amongst other things and it’s tough to figure out when approving.
Therefore we have come up with a directory format for that as well.
The ask is that you check the appropriate file BEFORE you submit the request. This is very important and if you don’t. Your request will be rejected.
There are currently 4 lists (Aircraft, Airline, Airport and liveries), again please review before requesting a new one.

Also, please do not spam the feature requests with a whole bunch of stuff at once. While I know folks get excited about these things. It takes significant time to go through them and not every livery on every airline is likely to be done.
The new directories can be found Here

With that I will let you enjoy your time, your airports and appreciate the hard work that has gone into all this new stuff.

Until next time

This is one of the very important yet very useful modblogs in the forum!!!

Coming to the feature requests,

I while making the directory noticed many requests with either improper format or multiple liveries (and even other sections such as gameplay and others) in the same thread, and I absolutely feel mods tried to curb this down as much as possible, so my request would be the following

  1. Post them in separate requests, maybe they are just the same livery in 2 colours, but in game they count as two separate liveries and hence making two posts would make the most sense
  2. Limit the request post (have self limit) of 5 to 7 per day across all the sections
  3. The main point, Try to make it as per the format set by the developers
    • Airline thread titles to be of the format ICAO CODE - Airline name
    • Livery thread titles to be of the format ICAO CODE Airline/Aircraft - Airline name (Livery name followed by the word livery)

We editors tried to streamline as much of the requests as possible (resulting in the annoying spam of old threads coming up in the latest section over the last 2 days) but we can’t be correcting literally each and every post

To all those who posted before this Modblog, please try and fix all the issues with all your previous requests, it would benefit both us and the whole WoA community

And to end it, Happy WoA life to all, enjoy and have a nice day!!!

Not sure if I should be popping this in here but I just wanted to say, currently I have a lot of spare time while between my uni semesters and I’ve been motoring my way through this game as it’s pretty much what I’ve been wanting in a game for the past 15 years or so. I like my older liveries having first got interested in aviation in 2010ish so I’ve been doing posts for them mainly to see how many fellow players are also interested.

If I do post too many and if I’m getting annoying let me know and I’ll stop .

Can I ask something from the wiki moderators/personnel?
I really don’t get why New Content and Launched Content have the creation of new posts allowed for everyone and what it’s even necessary for. I’ve seen it happen countless times where someone makes a suggestion post just for it to be locked and for them to be directed to the correct category instead. Why not just… close the categories to people who are not supposed to be posting in them? I don’t see why anyone other than developers (or maybe wiki editors for that one odd reason) should be posting in them, and since Old Release info or for example WIKI (from players to players) are closed to posting, these should obviously be as well. Saves both the moderators and regular people time.

Thanks

A very good suggestion,
Steps taken as of now :

  1. We try to report it and move the thread to its correct location (only mods can do it)
  2. As already stated by you, close the thread

Reason why the actual solutions isnt found yet

  1. Only developer can change settings for a section
  2. Wiki section were created with the intention that no one would be allowed to even reply
  3. Old release section consists of pre 3.0 which are now all outdated and no replies are allowed for the same reason
  4. For the new content and launched content sections including Devblog section, devs wants community interaction which means replies need to be allowed, and as per my knowledge, allowing to reply enables allowing to post in that section too

@carlsberg72 @ukplanespotter757 can clarify in more detail

Well, the fourth point is just very dumb, is that because the forum literally cannot allow replying otherwise or is there any way to change it? The website’s code isn’t accessible by y’all, right? I’d guess no in that case, if there are no settings for it. Thank you for the detailed reply though.
