Hey everyone,
Now that version 3.0 is finally out, I’ve had a moment to breathe—and also to give you a proper update on what we’re working on next and how our plans are shaping up.
Reflecting on the 3.0 Launch
As expected, the release of 3.0 brought a variety of reactions. Some players adapted to the new UI without any trouble, while others didn’t immediately connect with it. And that’s okay.
We know that big changes take time. But we also believe that most of you know us well enough to understand our intent: we’re here for the long run, and we’ll keep pushing World of Airports forward—step by step, with your feedback always in mind.
Every update is just a foundation, something we build upon. So while some of the initial responses may have sounded like “it’s the end of the world” , we see 3.0 as the beginning of an exciting new chapter.
And let’s not forget—this version wasn’t just about UI. It also included numerous other improvements and a complete server backend rewrite, setting the stage for what comes next.
Next Airport: A Personal Project with a Broader Impact
Our next airport might surprise some of you. It’s not at the top of community wishlists—but there’s a meaningful reason behind this choice.
We’re creating SCL – Santiago de Chile as a gift to one of our team members who is recovering from serious health issues. Our hope is that working on and playing with this airport will make his recovery a little brighter—and faster.
But beyond the personal story, SCL is also a valuable addition to our lineup, expanding our airport portfolio with another unique destination in South America. It brings new visual character, layout complexity, and operational challenges that we’re excited to explore in-game.
We truly hope you’ll embrace this special addition with the same kindness and curiosity that’s defined our community over the years.
Generic Airports: Expanding the World Faster
We’ve also made great progress on the smallest variant of our generic airport system—and this is just the beginning.
These generic airports are designed to help us expand the number of playable locations across all continents much faster. Yes, they won’t be 100% true-to-life recreations, but they still offer a fun, varied, and believable gameplay experience.
That said—don’t worry. Our hand-crafted, real-world airports aren’t going anywhere. We’ll continue to build selected airports with full real-world accuracy, just like we always have.
Generic airports simply give us a way to bridge the gap, bring more diversity, and let you explore new parts of the world more quickly.
Aircraft Landing Gears Are Getting Some Love
Yes, we’ve heard you. The wheels don’t spin, and yes—it bothers us too . That’s why we’ve been working for a while now on a complete overhaul of aircraft landing gear animations. Not only will wheels spin, but the whole system will feel more alive and realistic.
It’s a small detail, but one that makes a big difference in immersion.

Complete Embraer Family Overhaul
After rebuilding the CRJ lineup in version 3.0, it’s time to give some long-overdue love to another key aircraft manufacturer.
Over the coming updates, we’ll be gradually introducing a completely redesigned Embraer family—including both the classic ERJ jets and the new-generation E-Jets.
This overhaul will include:
- Brand-new 3D models with updated proportions and details
- Improved animations and texture fidelity
- And support for new stand and taxiway logic based on ICAO size categories
These aircraft have been part of World of Airports from the early days, and we can’t wait to bring them up to the modern visual and gameplay standards you’ve come to expect.
What’s After Embraer?
While the Embraer family is our next focus, we’re also preparing two more aircraft additions behind the scenes:
- The Fokker 70/100, a classic that will add variety to regional operations
- The Boeing 747-8, a modern jumbo jet with impressive presence and performance
We’re still deciding on the exact release order, as a lot depends on production pipelines and integration timing. But rest assured—they’re both coming.
Whether you’re a fan of regional jets or long-haul beasts, we’ve got something on the way for you.
Arrival Scheduling and Stand Assignment
One of the key improvements we’re working on right now is a scheduling system that will allow us to:
- Distribute arrivals more precisely across individual stands
- Serialize and prioritize the arrival queue
This will give you more control, better flow, and more realism in managing your airport’s traffic—especially during peak operations.
Aircraft in Flight – New Perspective
We’re also exploring a long-requested feature: a camera view that lets you watch aircraft while they’re en route.
Originally, we had planned to implement streamed real-world map data for these views. However, we’ve come to realize that supporting this for our large and active player base isn’t feasible without additional costs—which we want to avoid.
So for now, we’re adjusting course slightly. Even without streamed real maps, we believe this new perspective will still feel immersive and exciting, and we think you’ll really enjoy seeing your aircraft in motion.
Improved Radio Communication
We’ve also continued enhancing the spoken ATC communications, and we’re getting to the point where it actually sounds like it’s coming straight from a radio.
This subtle but powerful change helps elevate immersion and adds one more layer of authenticity to the overall gameplay experience.
Better Support – and Ideas – Through the Forum
We’re aware that the support queue never ends, and that many of the requests we receive are repeats of the same core issues.
To improve response times and transparency, we’ll be focusing even more on our official forum, where you’ll find:
- Solutions to the most common problems
- Regularly updated troubleshooting guides
- A dedicated space to submit your own suggestions for new features or improvements
- Ongoing discussions around community-submitted ideas, including those already under review or development
- And of course, a direct way to report bugs tied to recent updates or content
This shift will help us focus more on building, while still keeping a clear and open channel between the team and the community.
A Special Thanks to Our Moderators
Lastly, we want to send a massive thank you to all our moderators across Discord, Facebook, the forum, and other platforms.
