#8 Anticipation

Hi all,
Just realized it’s been a while since I posted, and frankly it’s been a bit crazy for me. 2025 started off with a trip to MCO for work, god I hate that airport… sorry, but it sucks… and then a quick turnaround and down to MBJ for a week in the winter sun… When you live in the Northeast of the US, like I do, that sunshine is more than welcome. Unfortunately on my return to the US, things went extremely downhilll and without going into the gory details, I ended up in critical care and 5 days in hospital. It was not pretty, at times it was touch and go, but here I am out on the other side. Thank goodness.

So i’ve not been playing a lot and you might have seen me not posting a lot on here either. I have just had other priorities to be honest.

However as the title of this blog suggests, the anticipation is building for 3.0 and GRU. The amount of changes coming with 3.0 might actually surpass what happened with 2.0. It will also freak a lot of people out. Change is hard, especially when you have had 18 months to get used to the current system. But as ever we will adapt, figure it out and move forward, always have, always will. That’s what hapoens when you have a game that is now 5+ years old. Do nothing (cough cough, UATC), and you lose your player base faster than Usain Bolt ran the 100m…

But with any anticipation, comes the questions, what about this, what about that, how’s this going to work, any more info on that piece and of course the question we always love. “When is the new update coming out”.
Devs have said Q1, well Q1 is 15 days away and the game hasn’t been beta tested yet. Will it? normally I would say of course it would. But when BKK/MSY got released. We got a day to look at it, and frankly it was pretty clean to be honest. But 3.0 is a monster… but I am not convinced either way what’s going to happen with that in terms of testing…

Now to the all important piece of the puzzle, will 3.0 show up by the end of the month. Today on a different social media platform, I was called a moron, because I had the audicity to suggest that the update may shift into April. I have never said it would actually happen, but given the timing, the amount of work involved and a gut feeling after following updates for over 5 years. Something tells me that it might. Yes I am not a dev (although i work relatively closely with them), no I do not have a crystal ball (although sometimes I wish I did), so I cannot tell you if I am right or not.

All I can tell you is, like everyone else playing the game, I am waiting, in my case patiently, in others less so. But the anticipation is building and folks are eager to play what’s coming.
Trust me, I get it, always want the next big thing, everything is finished, what next… I hear it all the time. But especially with these updates, you need to give the devs time to complete their work, they do not have limitless time or a budget, So asking every other day… is not going to get it done any faster.

Would I like to see the update before March 31st, absolutely and I will be proven wrong in my statement about April and that’s ok, it’s just a gut feeling on my part. But as I have said before. Do NOT hang your hat on every word that the devs say. It will come back to bite you. What they say in dev chats, or leaks are stuff they are working on, but some of these things take a long time to perfect. Names on planes is one… Alliances is another.

This game has gone from basic graphics to something way beyond even i expected with the game, retracting landing gear. hundreds of liveries. More airports and even more coming. It’s a blessing to watch the game evolve. But so must we…

A long post, I know and I am sure there will be some TLDR folks in here, but that’s fine, either read it or don’t. It’s just my opinion and you can disagree if you like. Just don’t call me a moron, I’ve played this game for far too long, run this forum with help for close to 2 years I think and I like to believe I am honest with everyone on here.

With that, bye for now and here’s to 3.0. I really cannot wait to see how it’s going to work…

BRING…IT…ON

There’s a lot (unfortunately) of users that play this game that need to grow up and be more mature. I have the utmost respect for the devs and the mods like yourself for the time and effort you dedicate to the game and the forum. I can’t wait for the new update, whenever it arrives. Thank you for all you do!

same here i’m excited for the new update but also i think the part where you said “users that play this game need to grow up” i think like a lot of them are younger users

I hope things are on the up and up for you @carlsberg72 – the way that you have moderated this forum over the years has been impressive. It actually changed my perspective on what is possible in terms of streamlining communication to a community, especially the transition to moving folks to a formal bug report system and strict deduping/recategorizing of posts!

Bringing it back to the game – 3.0 will come out when it’s ready. The devs have done a great job keeping the quality high on the past releases, I fully believe they will do the same here, whenever that happens and I’m ready for the new gameplay and challenges it will bring!

It still doesn’t give them the right to call people names, I don’t care how old you are, imo.

Glad to be apart of your anticipation @carlsberg72, same with me i have the exact gut feeling and sorry to hear about your medical track record right now, hope you get better and are able to continue through life and game statistics

The fact that so many people get pressed about a new version coming out is crazy, it’s a small dev team and they like to do things right and not rush updates and whatnot. Its a free game, it’s not like you paid for something and now it gets pushed back, relax, it will get here when it gets here!

Hi Carlsberg,

Really sorry to hear you got so poorly. And delighted that you are feeling better. Thinking of you.

I just love playing the game as it is. Any new stuff is like…. “Wow… you mean we get more!”

Love it.

Sigh…

First of all I hope you are feeling better after all of these and take care.

What I mean is that, things never have to be this way.

I don’t work in game industry but I do have strong relationship with some people working in this industry.

Many of these people told me this way:
“If you cannot guarantee it, don’t talk too much about it. The last thing you want to do is that you committed to something or you do so in players’ perspective.”

I fully understand their point, they sense pressure from the community. On the one hand, they need to tease things out to keep the community excited, whereas failure to deliver a promise, even seems to be can cause some backlash from players community so the best way is never to say when, or how unless it is nailed down. Don’t get me wrong, I am not blaming anyone for the situation but I have to say that is common in other game communities. I see many people are impatient and even aggressive to others when they find the situation is not like what they think.

I am a small business owner and I also face such similar dilemma. I have some people not doing good and I have other people that blame them directly or indirectly for the situation. It may sounds very weird to you that I spend a lot of my working time trying to be in the middle between these guys. Some of you know I am from Australia and this place is a rather relaxing and peaceful place while I still cannot make such headaching stuff away from my to-do list. So I could image if there are players from regions that value promises a lot.

I am still unable to find a one-for-all solution in such cases I have in my business but in most cases the only thing I can do is to call both parties to calm down, there is nothing that is that horrible and we can surely do it.

I never want to blame those impatient people but simply would like to deliver a message: “I understand what is happening but please try to be polite.”

@carlsberg72 Why did you say MCO sucks That is my hometown

I have nothing against Orlando itself, my company has an office there and i have spent plenty of time going up and down the east coast and have had plenty of fun times. But dealing with MCO was the absolute reason i got pre-check and changed my departure times to first thing in the morning, to survive. dealing with security and the “mickey crowd” is just a nightmare, then you have to deal with the whole people mover system, and the food choices out at the satellites are awful and few and far between. They change gates on you without announcing anything (happened to me last time i was there) and terminal C may as well be in Disney Springs as for how close it is to the rest of the airport (although it’s a decent looking terminal). so all in all it’s a miserable experience and one that is shared by many of my colleagues and while this wasn’t MCO’s fault, it was also the scene of a B6 disaster, where my A321 went tech, 9 hour delay because the only one available was at the gate next to mine, but it had to fly to Richmond, VA and back first before it could take us home. Just too many bad experiences to be honest.

I’ve had my fair share of bad experiences at MCO. When I was 12, I was coming home from Orlando with my parents. While we were waiting at our gate, I figured we still had time before our flight, so I asked my parents if I could around the terminal and they said yes. Being the dumb kid I was, I thought that the entire airport was part of one terminal with all the people movers on that side of the airport being in pretty much the same spot(also, what’s up with the A,B,C,D instead of 1 2 3 4, making them sound like concourses), so I went back through the people mover from terminal B and to the area right after security. I looked at the flight board, and saw that there was an Emarites 777 at the terminal C, which I wanted to see for myself. I walked through the little hallway between the terminal B and C people movers. The security guard who was standing there even looked me dead in the eye, surprisingly not even questioning why a twelve-year old was wandering by himself past security with no backpack and no parents. I went though the to terminal C, but I realized the people mover took me to the parking garage, so I went back to where I came from. However, when I tried to walk back though that same little hallway, that same security guard coldly stopped me, saying I needed to go through security to get in. I told him how I was that same kid he saw earlier, but he said that wasn’t his problem and I needed to go to the TSA, abandoning me as a lost kid in a foreign airport. So after bawling my eyes out to the agents over there, they called my parents over the intercom(which was quite embarrassing) and I was free to go. Yes part of this was because of my failure to read signs but there is also no reason for them to be over-complicating their people mover system, making you go through security all over again which could be very inconvenient at times.

Also, in my most recent time flying out of there, the only real breakfast option at our terminal was Starbucks(Unless you want to be eating pretzels for breakfast) causing the line to be so long that I figured that I may as well eat when we land. So I love Orlando as a city, but the airport could be way better.

Yeah I prefer TPA over MCO. Flown into both but only out of MCO, and i was delayed and security was chaos.
