[ATC] - NGO airport rework for better realism

:bullseye: What is your suggestion?
NGO airport should be reworked to better reflect its real-life layout. The current remote C-size stands should be redesigned into version 3.0 shared stands that also support E-size aircraft, as seen in the real airport. Additionally, the stands near the cargo terminal should be made shared to allow both cargo and passenger aircraft. Terminal 2 also supports D and E category aircraft in real life, and this functionality should be reflected in the game.

:hammer_and_wrench: How would it work in the game?
The remote C-size stands would be replaced with enlarged shared stands that accommodate E-size aircraft. The cargo terminal area would gain hybrid stands with the option to choose flight type β€” cargo or passenger. Terminal 2 would be enabled to handle D and E-size aircraft.

:balance_scale: Why is this a good idea?
This update would significantly enhance NGO’s realism in the game, aligning it more closely with the actual airport. It would provide more accurate aircraft handling and improve immersion for players who value authenticity and detail.

Projected appearance after completion of works (from the airport’s official website)

Construction Area

(From the screenshot)
The scope of works includes the construction site of the alternative runway, as well as adjacent areas where the following activities will be carried out:
β€’ installation of drainage (water runoff) systems,
β€’ installation of main cable and utility ducts,
β€’ pavement improvement (rehabilitation/upgrade).
In addition, works will include the expansion and reconstruction of the aviation substation, as well as the modernization of lighting equipment and other facilities located within the restriction zone (transitional surface) of the new runway.

(From the screenshot)
Reconstruction (modification) of objects intersecting the transitional surface

β€œTo put it simply:
This refers to the modification or height reduction of objects (such as lighting masts, antennas, etc.) that penetrate the safety limitation surface near the runway.”

Chubu Centrair International Airport currently operates a single runway, 3,500 m long and 60 m wide.
Planned works:

  • On the eastern side, the current taxiway will be reconstructed, and a new β€œEast Runway” will be built, 3,290 m long and 45 m wide.
  • After the eastern runway is completed, the existing runway will be temporarily closed for major renovation.

Once renovated, it will be put back into operation, and the airport’s capacity will increase by up to 1.2 times the current level.

Next phase

  • On the western side, a third runway β€” the β€œWest Runway” β€” is planned, 3,500 m long and 45 m wide, to accommodate potential future passenger growth.
  • After the western runway opens, the old existing runway will be permanently closed, and the airport will operate with two new runways (East and West).
At this stage, the airport’s capacity will increase to 1.5 times the current level.

About runway spacing
β€’ Currently, the distance between the centers of the existing runway and the future western runway is 550 m.
β€’ After the eastern runway is built, the distance between the East and West runways will be 760 m, which corresponds to a semi-open parallel layout.

The greater the distance between runways, the more aircraft can take off and land simultaneously.

Construction commencement ceremony
On February 22, 2025, the ceremony marking the start of construction for the second runway took place.
The current runway is heavily worn and requires major renovation, so the airport submitted an application to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan.
Approval was granted on February 17, 2025, the 20th anniversary of the airport’s opening.

About the new (temporary) runway
β€’ Length: 3,290 m
β€’ Width: 45 m
β€’ Built on the site of the current taxiway
β€’ Construction completion is planned by the 2027 fiscal year

Land reclamation project near Chubu Centrair International Airport
In Nagoya Port, due to the large amount of sediment carried by rivers, regular dredging (removal of silt and sand) is carried out.
The excavated soil is temporarily stored on the artificial Port Island, but its capacity is nearly full.
Therefore, a new area for storing this soil is planned near Chubu Centrair International Airport.

Project details
β€’ Reclamation will be carried out in two locations β€” to the west and southeast of the airport island.
β€’ Total area: approximately 290 hectares
β€’ Total volume of soil: about 38 million cubic meters
The western part of the reclamation (which local authorities and businesses propose to use in the future for a second runway) is planned to be constructed over approximately 15 years.

This with the Stand update would make NGO so much more enjoyable

Side note, didn’t know Larger planes could park at terminal 2

Yes. According to the diagrams (just like in that post), it’s very clear where and which planes can park.

Almost all remote stands also have access to large aircraft.

Along with a remodel, ngo is another airport I think would benefit greatly from domestic wide bodies being available.

Development of a New Runway

Phase 1 [Temporary Plan]

Existing Runway (Runway A)
Length: 3,500 m, Width: 60 m

Replacement Runway (Runway B)
Length: 3,290 m, Width: 45 m

By fiscal year 2027, a replacement runway (Runway B) will be constructed at the site of the existing taxiway.
While it is in use, flight operations during late-night and early-morning hours will continue, and the existing Runway A will undergo major rehabilitation.

Phase 2 [Future Plan]

New Runway (New Runway A)
Length: 3,500 m, Width: 45 m

Runway B
Length: 3,290 m, Width: 45 m

In anticipation of future growth in air traffic demand, a new runway (New Runway A) will be constructed on land created through the land reclamation project at Chubu International Airport.
The airport will then operate with two runways - the New Runway A and Runway B built during Phase 1.
