Airport Name and ICAO/IATA Code
Cagliari Elmas Airport (ICAO: LIEE / IATA: CAG)
Location (City, Country)
Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy
Airport Type & Size
Single runway airport with a main terminal building and 36 stands, 6 (Maybe 7) with jetbridge access. Both cargo and passenger ops at the airport, itself located 4 miles Northeast of Cagliari just outside the Commune of Elmas. It has an old second runway converted into the main taxiway for the airport, allowing for no backtracking.Runway 14/32 is 2,804m/9,199ft long.
Why should this airport be added to World of Airports?
Itโs a Ryanair focus city (Like most airports in Italy), the same for Volotea. It had 5,160,000 passengers in 2024 and serves the largest city on the Island of Sardinia. It would be a great secondary airport in the Italian South, connecting across the Mediterranean to any future Spanish holiday airports for perfect B class routes. Love more regional connections and Europe is a spectacular place for them.
Major Airlines & Routes
Ryanair and Volotea both have Cagliari as focus hubs with the airport a hub for Meridiana, Meridiana Fly and Air Italy (Operating for Meridiana) in the 2010s which would make for good alternative local airline contracts. As per BRI, AeroItalia and Alitalia/ITA would be great for locals too.
Unique Features or Challenges
Pretty location situated right next to the Stagno di Cagliari, the estuary of several different rivers and a potential selection of many different local airlines.
