Absolutely overpriced at 120GP.

What is even the point of adding legacy plane models if they’re going to be this expensive, and most of the time completely unprofitable to run?

What is the incentive to spend real money on GP’s to unlock a plane that will actually tank your profit?

WoA should try to promote some fleet variety for players, so that not every contract from players ends up being A21NYs, B77W’s and A388.

They are a collector’s piece, not every model in game is to be run for profit, also it is a very nominal price for the benefits you get, 134 XP for a C class plane, that is the highest in game, also they have the second fastest cruise speed, next only to the mighty CONC

They also are promoting variety for sure, the football fever event did give new special livery to A345 which is one of my most favourite plane for operating too, it’s just that players whose planes we see most are the ones who play the game as a strategy game and not as a pure aviation enthusiast

The problem is it competes with 15+ other C class planes that do not cost as much, and are more profitable. For the same cost, you can unlock 3-4 other C class planes, and you can even unlock 1-2 E and F class planes. It also costs a lot more in Wollars too.

None of what you said really justifies the plane costing 3-4 times as much as any other C class. It’s fine that a legacy plane is more expensive, and it’s even fine that they are unprofitable. But both those factors reduce the incentive for players to even consider them - and I think 120GP pushes the balance completely towards the side of “not worth it”. A 60-80 GP range would be more reasonable.

I’m not talking about liveries, I’m talking about variety of plane models players unlock and use for their fleets. A free livery for a single plane model doesn’t really help with that, when you still need to unlock the plane.

The way I see it, it doesn’t really compete with other aircraft, as it serves a very different purpose, it’s not a workhorse that earns you thousands of wollars, but rather a unique sight that you buy just to have it.
I’d say the other models that were added now (737 NGs and MAX’s) fit the role you described as an alternative to other fleet planes rather well, the Convair is something extra.

Exactly. I intend to build a small collection of these at ZRH. I’m approaching the point of not wanting more planes for grinding Wollars at ZRH as I’m earning them faster than I can spend them. With the CV880’s being a historical part of the Swissair fleet, having a few of these flying around will be fun, and frankly… I’ve been playing long enough that there’s very few planes I want for my fleet and it’s just getting one here and there that interests me as I continue to accumulate GP. And plus… many of my contract partners grinding airports will appreciate the higher XP earnings relative to the size of plane.

You’re in a similar boat to how I felt about fleet variety two years or so ago. There are so many fleet planes that just can’t compete when it comes to profitability…. especially on player to player routes.

Now I’m focused on optimizing my fleets in different ways. Right now I’m trying to maximize demand fulfillment without using extra seats and am using IRL runway lengths as opposed to in game measurements and not allowing myself to go over said max T/O lengths for the planes in order to encourage more variety in my fleet building. Then I’m using historical fleet importance for fleets based at my airport as a tie breaker when trying to decide between planes of similar stats. It means I’m using a much wider variety of planes and every plane has a purpose and reason beyond “I want to” and it has increased my enjoyment of the game immensely.

At ZRH alone, I’m using B752s, B78Xs, B77Ws, B747SPs, B743s, A343s, and A345s for long haul pax, and B753s, B37Ms, A20Ns, ATR75s, F100s, B463s, and soon to be CV880s for short haul pax. My cargo fleet has ATR75Fs, SF34Fs, B463Fs, B732Fs, A321Fs, B77LFs, B744Fs, and A346Fs. Some of these planes are super profitable, and some of these planes lose money, but my fleet is balanced to the point where I still earn Wollar’s faster than they are spent. I don’t know if this will help you find roles for planes like the CV880, but maybe it nets you some ideas! There’s many ways to build your fleet, it’s why I’m not a proponent for profit is better. I’m more of an advocate for it only being one part of the equation of how you build your fleet.

I think people are getting a little too hung up on the profitability part. I have a large fleet, and I could operate CV880s at a loss without a problem.

I am fine with legacy planes not being profitable. My issue is that the high GP cost compounds the issues that legacy planes are not profitable and are (often) very limited in their capabilities when it comes to player-to-player contracts. Now my playtstyle is 100% player contracts, so I understand that this is a personal choice, and that for players who send fleet planes to non-player destinations, this issue is reduced.

From the little research I’ve done, the CV880 appears to be slightly “worse” than a B38M when it comes to what player destinations it can fly to. Currently, I was debating whether to get the CV880 or the B37M to add to my fleet. I was leaning towards the CV880, because I already own the B38M, and I always prefer more plane variety in my fleet.

But the fact it costs 120GP, and is more limited than the B38M, let alone the B37M makes it a complete non starter for me. I have no personal emotional attachment to the CV880. I do think it looks nice, and I would have enjoyed having it as part of my fleet for that reason, but not at that price when it is that limited. Now 60-80GP? I probably wouldn’t have thought about it.
