Dev Chat February 2025

So basically just what MSFS does I suppose, I guess it makes sense but I would much prefer just to have 4 fully modelled airports per year

Quality > Quantity

The generic airports added will be added by community voice.

They will have super short dev times

This somewhat concerns me, as I’m sure a lot of us would prefer high quality airports over an airport which is released and then updated further down the line.

Ditto tbh

It feels like the first decision that I seriously don’t agree with from the devs, pretty much ever

From what I’ve seen here, there’s a few decisions I personally aren’t a fan of, like the A330 remodel not being planned but the E190 is (unless of course it is planned for some point but not for a while) and there’s some small bits of the new UI I’m personally not a fan of, mostly the lack of airport codes on the aircraft cards to the right of the screen.

Honestly I don’t mind generic airport. Yes I’d rather quality over quantity but it will allow the devs to quickly make airports and see which airports the players want to be fully developed. They can them work on making the airport that has the most request to be fully modeled

That’s true, but it will likely wreck progression and motivation.

I guess we can’t really make any informed decisions as of yet though, we need to see what this stuff is like in game before judging it fully.

I just want the 757 remodel, it seems so far down the list for how popular it is.

Not to mention that it seriously degrades the quality of graphics, which could be seriously disappointing.

In the end it’s all they can do to deal with the extrmely high demand of every airport in the world

I personally will just skip these generic airports where possible

From my perspective, a system which follows normal releases of a few airports per year but at least one is a community vote based off popular suggestions is a better way in my eyes than generic airports, whilst keeping airports to the same high standards we have now.

As has been said, quality over quantity. Again though, I guess we shall see what happens going forward, as it might be completely different to how it seems.

I’m hoping that this gets some serious pushback from the rest of the community. Not to mention getting people to poll what airports they want is a bad idea cause basically people will just vote for the largest airports (think ATL, DXB, Etc.) when the more unique and unheard of airports (PRG, NGO, MCT) are what make the game special.

Progression would also be bad as you would barely get any time to grind one airport before the next one is released.

Also the Devs have spent so long making 3.0 models and making everything realistic so it seems counterintuitive to now deliberately make airports that have worse graphics.

I agree with @horsepowergeek on this one, I’ll be skipping these

From what I’m reading these ports will be at a pretty good level, and they will slowly bring them up to the normal standard during the following months is what I’m seeing

While it’s is a crappy practice, it’s better than using some ai program to release each airport looking totally inaccurate

That’s a good point, but even if they ended up being generic airports, people will only go and pick those ones for being upgraded to the normal standards. You’ll get the major airports remodelled, and probably end up in that cycle for a very long time, as the big hub airports is what people seem to want.

I understand it as a system similar to that of Infinite Flight after they introduced 3D buildings, where they are all made using generic buildings which are just shaped and then get custom assets later on, like custom towers.

In the end the only way to keep a player base is to do things that they want, you really cannot blame them

Not at all, keeping up with community demands is a good thing, I guess the best thing to do is wait until the first one of these shows up and see what it’s like, just seems strange to go down that route after having a few custom made airports each year since the game launched.

No. They will release at some low baseline and then bring the most popular ones up to par with current releases and ignore others

That’s what I’m saying, my ā€œpretty goodā€ means just not the standard quality

It should be noted that kuba mentioned a generic airport in the smallest of five size types is in the works which presumably means they will offer, say, 4 large airports to pick from, then 4 small ones the next time, or something. It won’t all be hubs
