Because if you don’t have the gold planes built up, devs would like you to pay for some. Because that’s what keeps the game going. If nobody pays trust me this game will die, even though the guys that built this are huge aviation fans and they did one important thing. NO ADS!!!’ So in order to make money, they need sponsorship and folks to pay money. Nothing Is truly free.

Only way WoA team can earn some money to cover cost is micropayments. They said playing their games will never be interrupted by annoying advertisements you have no interest in.
To be completely honest… all urban legend about sponsorship… there are no sponsors - only micropayments providing some income.
