:chart_increasing: Airport Type & Size
Second busiest international airport in Tuscany after Pisa International. 1 runway which is notoriously short, 05/23 at 5,118ft/1,560m.

It has one terminal building and a maintenance area across the way from the terminal which also has some remote parking (Saw the Luxair Q400 and TAP E195 being loaded up with pax over there to the top left of this photo).

:vertical_traffic_light: Why should this airport be added to World of Airports?
It’s a funky airport with a turnaround, where the aircraft always land from the South and take off in that direction, limiting the speed of the operations and forcing it to be more about the airlines and liveries than about making a profit from your own airline (Though it would be an excellent airport for A19N ops).

It’s also a stunning airport with a lovely spotting area in the restaurant terminal area as per my photo below,

Pizza and ‘tea’ (She offered me tea and being English I naturally agreed to which this is what I got. Was rather nice though so the look of pure disgust didn’t last too long) and a Vueling A319.

:airplane_departure: Major Airlines & Routes
The two major operators are Vueling and Volotea so no Ryanair (Yay!) and easyJet. Also serves a lot of major operators including ITA, Alitalia (I mention them as the one A319 still in the livery is a regular here), BA Cityflyer and BA normal, Air Dolomiti for Lufty (Though they used to be regular), Air France with A318s (Sadly not long for this world), KLM, Luxair, TAP, Helvetica for Swiss and others.

Current airlines,

:world_map: Unique Features or Challenges
Taxiing involves blocking the runway before taxiing off again whereby aircraft can land whilst others are in the waiting area to depart which adds a lot of challenge. The airport also operates landing and takeoffs from and to the South so aircraft can’t land once one has just left the runway and instead are routed in once the departing aircraft has left the area.

God do I love Avro RJ’s though this is an old image from the 2000s,

Airport facing North,

Rwy 05 (Landing only cause of the big bloomin hill),

Rwy 23 (Takeoff only),

Terminal,

Maintenance area, private jet parking and 4 remote stands,

View towards the city (You can make out the Duomo clearly),

Closer view (Hopefully would be modelled),

In restaurant photo,

The biggest permitted type now, the A20N as long as it has the correct landing kit like the A319 has to have.

having sat in that same restaurant, i have to say it would make a lovely camera angle (like the in-terminal one at SXM)

My thoughts exactly. Would be nice to stick it on auto and watch the aircraft come in and out like I did irl lol. Hearing a roar and then seeing an Air Dolomiti E190 appear from the left was awesome.

They gave you the wrong kind of tea!!! These smaller airports are lovely and I honestly prefer the midsize airports (IND, TFS etc).

An absolute disgrace if I say so myself . The mid-size airports are definitely more my forté as you have more of a challenge and the devs can get them out quicker. Plus the liveries tend to be more unique than at hubs.

I’ve also been there not too long ago, I was planespotting from that exact hill which blocks takeoffs from 05, that would definitely make a great camera angle too :slightly_smiling_face: Definitely would be nice to get more smaller airports and the layout is definitely distinct and tricky (actually I’m not even sure how the turnarounds would be handled from a UI perspective but that would make an interesting point by itself). I’m really surprised that no one has made a feature request on it until now.

I had to confirm myself and was also surprised haha. I wish I’d had the time to get up that hill to do some spotting as it was the last year of A318 ops into the airport but alas. I agree completely, more smaller airports with tricky and unique layouts. I don’t wish to see the same hub copy and pasted 100 times per capital city, it’s just not interesting.
