But GRU just sounds like the minion’s HQ
Dang! Probably the best airport in south America. Very excited!
The thing about being GRU instead of GIG is that we can now keep hope that one day they might end up adding SDU. They seem to like beaches. SDU have a close by marina and one of the 7 modern world wonders nearby (Christ the Redeemer, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), amongst other things. Beautiful surroundings!
Anyway, GRU is the only south american airport in the 50 busiest airport list, so, great choice:
Been to the 1st 3rd 4th 9th 18th 30th and 48th most.
I’ve been to 1, 3, 6, 8, 22, 28, 29, 33, and 36, but never have I even been anywhere near South America! This will be a great airport with a good deal of unique contracts to the region.
GRU has a large number of destinations (from flightconnections.com). Will be so much fun to max this airport out:
Surprise! Nice to finally see a South American airport, long overdue!
GRU is big, but not huge. Two runways, one used for landing and one for takeoff under normal operations. From the landing runway, planes will need to cross the takeoff runway to access the terminals. Three terminals, although Terminal 1 is very small and is only used for Azul and does not have jet bridges. Terminal 2 is the largest with 2 piers and 29 jet bridges, with the west pier only able to handle domestic flights. Terminal 3 is used mostly for L/X planes and international flights with 11 L/X gates (or up to 22 M gates if split gates are used). Lots of remote stands as well, not sure if these are utilized for boarding or just for parking.
One of LATAM’s largest hubs with 70 nonstop destinations, flying A320 (including Neo) family, B789 and B77W aircraft. GOL also operates a hub, with 45 nonstop destinations using B737, B738, and B38M aircraft.
It doesn’t look like there are many scheduled routes with S aircraft to this airport, with Voepass the sole operator of S planes, with only a few daily flights. X planes include daily service to Dubai on an Emirates A380 and daily service to Frankfurt on a Lufthansa B748. Atlas Air also operates the B748F to destinations such as Quito, Miami and Los Angeles.
Should be fun!
I’m currently making a list of the IRL contracts for GRU so players can use it as a reference for playing realistically BUT it will take a minute.
Azul also flies AT76, e.g. AD4390 to CWB.
I wonder if there’s any chance of the Embraer E195-E2 being introduced in this update aswell, since we’ve already got it’s competitor (BCS3) and Azul has the second largest fleet after Porter.
I say so since there factory is also in Sau Paulo, but in a different place, at first I thought there factory was in GRU but it turns out it’s in SJK.
Let’s just hope the gates are correct
SYD still disappointed me with those S gates not being able to handle M like IRL
That flight looks like it is operated with an E190. Maybe was used in the past.
MSY as well, several gates are S only even though they normally handle M planes with ease. I will say the A319/737-700 wingspan vs the 757 wingspan is quite different, and several gates at various airports can’t handle a 757 or A321, but can adequately fit a A319 or similar sized 120-140 planes. Maybe this is something in the new UI that will be fixed.
Mainly E195 and E295, but there’s an AT76 departing in about 2 hours, so…
GRU is not Azul’s hub in São Paulo state, it’s VCP, in Campinas, a close by city. That’s where the main regional traffic (Azul’s AT76) will be, but from time to time, they might end up in GRU aswell.
Most of the smaller flights in São Paulo city will go to CGH, a more central airport, while GRU is far from the center, mostly used for international flights and regional connecting flights. Let’s see how the devs depict it in game. It’ll be nice to have an airport this big with mostly M and L sized planes, with even the ‘Local’, free contracts being M-only (as they should)!
I agree
I think the best thing to do is using a radius limit for certain gates so that the can be used to their max potential instead of limiting a gate to a specific size
Hopefully that will be something the devs could implement
I’m waiting on the new UI, to see if it’ll change the gates at a number of the current airports.
Been to 4, 11, 13, 18, and 49 . Guess I need to visit busier airports.
Hey i like the smaller airports!
Can do any route you like as long they allow them.
