Iran Air had previously operated 4 Boeing 747SPs in their fleet, with the aircraft first entering service in 1976 and operating international destinations like Beijing, Kuala Lumpur, and Mumbai, to name a few for Iran Air. The aircraft were retired from Iran Air’s fleet in 2016 after Western sanctions resulted in a lack of spare parts for maintenance, resulting in the number of operational aircraft being reduced, which included the B747SP.
