Airport Type & Size - Turkish airlines international hub, with 5 runways, supports all aircraft, 80M pax/year, square size 76.5km²
Why should this airport be added to World of Airports?
ISTanbul airport Havalimani is very importaint airport between Europe, Asia and Africa. It is very big and it can acomodate a lot of aircrafts. It is really big travelling airport that conects two parts of world. There are a lot of conections with other airports around all the globe. Main airlines there are Turkish airlines, Pegasus, few planes from Asia (Emirates, Singapure, airlines from China), many European airlines fly to that airport too. I think this airport should be in the game because of it’s size, location and importance.
Major Airlines & Routes All around the Europe, 3/4 of Asia (southeast is to far away), big citys all around Africa, many routes to biger citys in North and South America. There is no routes to Australia yet.
Unique Features or Challenges
Because of it’s size there are a lot of long taxi ways, very big main terminal, a lot of cargo spots, very very bussy.
That airport should be in game becouse of its size and becouse it is bussiest airprot in Europe. All pleyers want huge aiport, hundrets of parking sports, big cargo terminals…That is best airport and now we got a chanse to vote it! Lets vote, lets win and lets build it!!!
I dont know why people dont see that airport. It is so big, so importaint. I think that is the next airport that should come in game. We all would enjoy in it! It is just amazing…
Thank you @Mitya, that really improves that airport. But even I cant bealive. That airport is so big. Thanks for photos again! I saw there are also
nice pictures from MSFS. Thanks for supporting that airport, all of you!
Here’s an example of how I imagine the taxiway flow at Istanbul Airport for arrivals and departures. The diagrams may not be perfect, but I tried to consider possible traffic crossings and took inspiration from how BKK and MCT are organized — while also trying to reflect how IST could operate.
According to Flightradar24, landings usually take place on 34L. If arrivals were on 34R, departures would have to cross 34L, which could create unnecessary ground traffic conflicts. Even at ICN, landings are typically done on the outer runway, while departures use the inner one that’s closer to the terminal and stands — this setup helps avoid runway crossings and improves efficiency.
Of course, I’d probably go for a more realistic flow in general — even though it increases taxi times from runway to terminal, it still looks and feels much better. In that case, landings would happen on 34L and 35R, while takeoffs would use 35L and 36
But that would mean planning all taxi movements to the stands more carefully. Most of the inbound flow would likely move from left to right along the terminal, while concourses A, B, and D would extend out toward 35L
1 — Air Traffic Control Tower (Main):
The main control tower with a full 360° panoramic view of the entire airport. Covers both the northern and southern parts of the terminal, as well as the CARGO terminal. Used for overall air traffic control.
2 — Terminal Top View:
Panoramic view of the passenger terminal from above, similar to MCT airport. Full 360° coverage of the roof and concourses. Perfect for visual monitoring of the terminal’s overall structure from above.
3 — Ramp Control Towers:
Cameras installed on ramp control towers. Cover the eastern part of the passenger terminal, southern stands, and Runway 36. Used for managing movement on stands and nearby taxiways.
4 — Camera Facing the Terminal:
Frontal view of the passenger terminal from the taxiway side, similar to camera No. 3 at BKK airport. Positioned closer to runways 36 / 35L / 35R. Provides a clear and direct angle of the terminal from the ramp side.
5 — Side-Angle Top View:
Located near the threshold of runways 35L / 35R. Covers the western part of the passenger terminal, southern zones, and part of the CARGO terminal. Offers an excellent angled top-down view.
6 — Spotting Camera at the Southern Exit:
Installed on a sloped exit road at the southern boundary of the airport, near the threshold of runways 35L / 35R. Suitable for spotting, monitoring taxiing and landings.
7 — Western Spotting Camera:
Located closer to runways 16R/34L and 16L/34R. Covers these runways, the control tower, and the CARGO terminal. Used for observing takeoffs/landings and cargo aircraft movements.
8 / 9 — Concourses Cameras:
Mounted above the passenger terminal concourses. Provide views toward the ramp and taxiways. Similar to cameras No. 3 and No. 4 at BKK airport (tower). Used for monitoring gates and parking stands.
10 — View of CARGO Terminal (North):
Camera located in the northern part of the airport, providing a view of the northern section of the CARGO terminal. Similar to camera No. 5 at BKK airport (tower). Well-suited for monitoring cargo operations and movements on the northern runways.
@Mitya I saw you posted that photo (that I added). When do you think they would posibly build that part or is this still a idea? Will that be the biggest airport on the World? Lets hope WoA will start creating IST before it starts spreading.
Terminal 2 (Istanbul Airport) is a reserved underground rapid transit station on the M11 line of the Istanbul Metro. It is located in the İmrahor neighbourhood of Arnavutköy district, at Istanbul Airport. The station will open when Istanbul Airport Terminal 2 is completed and opened.
