The airport has a very interesting design, as its terminal is nearly fully open-air and consists of tropical-style structures. The setting and backdrop are unlike anything seen before in WOA, with the airport mostly built atop black lava rock. It also features surprisingly diverse traffic, ranging from small regional aircraft operated by Mokulele Airlines to numerous Hawaiian Airlines and Southwest inter-island flights, as well as seasonal widebody traffic, including a Boeing 747 operated by Kalitta Air.
