In the 1960s, American Airlines approached Lockheed and competitor Douglas (later McDonnell Douglas) with the need for an airliner that could carry 250 passengers on transcontinental routes.
before the establishment of Extended Operations standards by the FAA in the 1980s, commercial jets with only two engines were not allowed to fly more than 30 minutes away from an airport, making trans-oceanic flights impossible.

Hong Kong Kai Tai airport was my childhood playground since my mom is the ground staff for Cathay Pacific and later Qantas.

I flown on B707 and later Tristar and 747 most of the time between HKG and TPE before my 22 years of age.

I even sat in the cockpit behind the Captain next to the Engineer on Tristar and 747 just because I was a kid and subload and whatever reason I do not know.

I watched landing planes at the checker box hill and flown on plane turning that right turn on top of Kowloon City. I did hear the roar of Concord taking off at Kai Tak.

I am just surprise to see there is no 3 engines plane in World of Airports and I do vote for DC-10 and MD-11 but I do not see L-1011 therefore I initiate this post.

In 2024 when I take a United return flight from SFO to HKG I asked the captain how did he like L-1011 and he said it was a great plane.

Again,
Thank you for Flyboys to create such great game for us plane enthusiast.
