Founded in 1969, Mandala Airlines was a full service airline by members of the Indonesian military up until 2006 as part of the Post-Suharto era, with the military forced to divest itself of its businesses, the military sold Mandala Airlines with Cardig International acquiring the airline for $34 million USD in April 2006, with the new owners converting it to a low-cost carrier and operating a fleet of Airbus & Boeing aircrafts like the A320 & B737 to destinations services to Hong Kong, Macau and Singapore from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Jakarta in 2010.In January 2011, facing bankruptcy, Mandala Airlines filed for protection from its creditors, and ceased operations. In 2013, Tiger Airways Group, Mandala Airlines announced its transformation into Tigerair Mandala.
