Missing liveries

Why Don’t We Add Every Livery at Once?

This is a question that appears regularly, especially when a new aircraft family is released and players notice that some airlines or liveries are missing.

The short answer is: adding every possible livery at once would not be sustainable for the long-term development of the game.

Content Is a Finite Resource

Unlike airports, gameplay features, or technical improvements, airlines do not magically appear overnight. The aviation industry has a finite number of airlines, and every time we add one to the game, that is one less piece of content available for future updates.

If we were to add every airline and every livery as soon as a new aircraft arrives, we would eventually face a difficult question:

What new content can we add later to keep the game fresh and interesting?

Future airports, regions, and aircraft releases benefit greatly from having appropriate airlines and liveries available. Sometimes we intentionally save certain liveries for future content because they naturally belong to a specific region or airport.

For example, a Canadian airline might make more sense when released alongside a future Canadian airport rather than appearing years earlier on an unrelated update.

Liveries Are Not “Copy & Paste”

Another common misconception is that once an airline exists in the game, it can simply be applied to any aircraft.

Unfortunately, that is not how aircraft liveries work.

All liveries in World of Airports are created by hand. While logos and some design elements can be reused, the actual texture must be recreated for every aircraft type.

An A350 texture cannot simply be applied to a B737-800, a B747, or an A340.

Every aircraft has:

  • Different fuselage dimensions
  • Different wing geometry
  • Different engine positions
  • Different door layouts
  • Different UV mapping

Because of this, every aircraft requires its own dedicated livery work.

Even when the airline already exists in the game, creating that same airline for another aircraft type still requires manual work from our artists.

Quality Over Quantity

Over the years, our aircraft have become significantly more detailed.

Modern aircraft releases include:

  • More detailed models
  • More accurate animations
  • Advanced flap systems
  • More realistic landing gear behavior
  • Higher quality liveries

As quality increases, so does the amount of work required for every aircraft and every livery.

Our goal is not simply to add the largest possible number of liveries. Our goal is to create aircraft that look, feel, and behave as realistically as possible.

Looking Ahead

World of Airports is a long-term project.

We want to continue adding new airports, aircraft, liveries, and features for many years to come. To achieve that, we need to balance current content with future opportunities.

Sometimes that means a favorite airline may not arrive immediately, even when the aircraft itself is already available.

It is not because we forgot about it.

Quite often, it is because we are thinking about how that airline can best fit into future content and future updates.

Thank you for your understanding, your patience, and your passion for aviation.

Completely agree with this. It is a fantastic way to keep the game community vibrant and engaged.

For example, after the Zurich Airport update, I was pleasantly surprised to see the Star Alliance livery A333 for Swiss International AirLines wide-body aircraft in the upgrade rewards list. I always assumed that Star Alliance liveries were excluded due to licensing issues, so seeing them finally added to the wide-body planes is incredibly exciting.

Thank you once again for your meticulous and passionate work!
