It’s the new shared stands which have come along with MSY, not sure exactly how they work as I’ve yet to get one.

from what ive seen with shared stands is its just having one massive stand built into two medium and small stands, so like at BRi they could add 4 new stands in the area of those two large stands
when you buy the massive stand the massive plane lands there, once its gone those two planes stands come back online and get used, which is my theory

Yes, if any of the 2 smaller stands is occupied, the L/X stand is blocked, and v.v.
Oh okay but it’s not a permanent ultimatum one or the other haha. That’s what I was worried about.
No, they’re on different stands. It’s more like 1.5 S/M stands to 1 L stand so it’ll take planning if you wanna use both types since if you slot an M plane in between, you’ll be blocking 2 L stands.

It’s called MARS (Multiple Apron Ramp System), where you can either have one large aircraft or two small/medium aircraft take up a spot. It is becoming very popular nowadays as airports can utilize the large gates for transoceanic flights to operate two individual gates for smaller domestic flights.
