What is your suggestion?
I would like to suggest several improvements to the way connection aircraft and contracts are managed, particularly the recently introduced Ping feature. The three main changes I would like to see are:
1. Give players control over Ping
At present, Ping can be disabled while actively playing, but once the game is closed it becomes available again. This means there is effectively no permanent way for a player to opt out.
I would like players to be able to:
- Permanently enable/disable Ping, with the preference remaining active while offline.
- Alternatively, choose how long an aircraft must have been away before Ping becomes available, e.g. 3 / 5 / 7 / 10 / 14 days.
- Introduce a cooldown after a Ping, or limit it to one Ping per aircraft/contract, to prevent repeated Pings.
- Show when Ping will become available, e.g. “Ping available in 4d 12h.”
Another option could be a single “Request Return” function instead of repeated Pings.
2. Show how long an incoming aircraft has been waiting
We can already see how long our aircraft have been at another player’s airport and their ETA.
However, when another player’s aircraft is at our airport, we simply see:
“Ready to land”
I would like this to show the actual waiting time, for example:
“Ready to land – 2d 6h”
This would make it much easier to identify and prioritise aircraft that have been waiting the longest.
3. Allow contracts to be sorted
Currently, other players’ contracts are displayed alphabetically while contracts involving our own fleet are displayed according to contract progress.
I would like a Sort By option for both lists, with options such as:
- Alphabetical A–Z / Z–A
- Contract progress
- Waiting time / time away
- Newest / oldest
Even simply allowing players to switch between Alphabetical and Contract Progress would be a useful improvement.
How would it work in the game?
A new Connection/Multiplayer Preferences section could contain the Ping setting. For example:
Allow Ping: ON / OFF
Ping available after: 3 / 5 / 7 / 10 / 14 days
Ping cooldown: 24 / 48 / 72 hoursIf Ping is disabled, the Ping button would simply be unavailable to the connection partner. If a delay has been selected, it could display:
Ping available in: 3d 14h
This preference should remain active whether the aircraft owner is online or offline.
For incoming aircraft, the existing “Ready to land” message could simply include the amount of time the aircraft has been waiting.
For contracts, a small Sort/Filter button could be added to both the incoming and outgoing contract lists, allowing the player to select their preferred sorting method.
Why is this a good idea?
The main benefit would be giving players more control and better information without removing functionality from anyone else.Everyone plays WoA differently. Some players may service connections several times per day, while others fit the game around work, family and other real-world commitments.
Ping can be useful for players who want it, but repeated or unnecessary Pings can create pressure to log into the game on another player’s timetable. A permanent opt-out or player-defined waiting period would allow both styles of play to coexist.
Displaying aircraft waiting time would also make managing a busy airport considerably easier. “Ready to land” doesn’t tell us whether an aircraft has been waiting five minutes or five days. Showing the waiting time would allow players to prioritise older connections fairly.
Finally, configurable contract sorting would make managing large connection fleets quicker and more intuitive.
None of these suggestions fundamentally changes the connection system. They simply provide more choice, consistency and useful information to the player.
I have played World of Airports since its release and still really enjoy the game. These suggestions come from wanting to make connection management less frustrating and more flexible, particularly as the multiplayer side of WoA continues to develop.
