Fuel stop Feature and adjustable cargo loading to maximize range:
- Economy – Fuel stop Feature
- Cargo – and adjustable cargo loading to maximize range
What is your suggestion?
What is your suggestion? Introduce the ability for aircraft in World of Airports to make fuel stops. This feature would significantly extend the operating range of aircraft, enabling routes like LHR–SYD and BKK–GRU. Widebody aircraft (ICAO category D and above) would remain profitable on these extended routes, while category B aircraft would not be economically viable for long routes. Additionally, category C aircraft would benefit significantly, as they could operate more diverse routes and finally access airports like SYD and GRU, currently restricted to category D or higher. Furthermore, cargo aircraft payload management could be adjusted to extend range, enhancing their profitability and operational flexibility, especially relevant with the upcoming B748F remodel.
How would it work in the game?
- Fuel Stop Selection: When planning flights that exceed an aircraft’s direct flight range, players would have the option to select an airport for refueling. The UI would clearly indicate suitable stopover airports, displaying the impact on range and costs.
- Cost Management: Each fuel stop would incur additional fees for landing, handling, and fuel, affecting overall profitability. Players would need to strategically balance route selection, aircraft type, and stopover decisions.
- Payload Adjustment for Cargo Aircraft: Players could choose to reduce cargo payloads to increase aircraft range. Lower payload would reduce immediate income but allow longer distances and fewer stops, making this a strategic trade-off especially appealing with models like the B748F.
Why is this a good idea?
- Realism and Profitability: Reflecting real-world airline strategies, introducing stopovers can improve route profitability. For example, Emirates’ LHR–DXB–PER route often achieves greater economic efficiency than Qantas’ nonstop LHR–PER, as carrying less fuel at departure significantly reduces aircraft weight and fuel consumption, thereby enhancing profitability.
- Enhanced Strategic Depth: Players gain new strategic options, fostering more thoughtful planning and fleet utilization. The possibility of fuel stops adds depth to route management, increasing engagement.
- Greater Accessibility: Allowing category C aircraft to access previously restricted airports opens new gameplay opportunities, particularly beneficial for players managing smaller or specialized fleets.
