[Other] - Introductuon of Crosswind / Extreme wind operations

:bullseye: What is your suggestion?
Introduce the visuals and respective airport operations to show aircraft frighting against strong winds on final approach to land, as well as takeoff.

:hammer_and_wrench: How would it work in the game?

What I am suggesting is adding aspects of real-world METAR data into the game as a functioning variable in aircraft operations. In addition to changing runways based on wind direction, it would be super cool to introduce crosswind and extreme wind operations. Not only do these look incredibly cool, but they also would affect the gameplay. With higher winds, takeoffs and landings could take longer, and that sort of thing.

:balance_scale: Why is this a good idea?
This would be a very unique and entertaining feature to add, as not only would it add realism, but it would make the aircraft in game seem more “alive” and less robotic. Right now in game, we have basically perfect landing conditions all the time, but with the addition, actually getting to see the aircraft in game perform maneuvers like crabbing whilst struggling and fighting to get to the runway, as well as climb out of the airport, would just be incredible to watch, and add so much life to the game.

Take off and landing actually take shorter due to:

  • Increased trust setting
  • greater wind component requires a lower ground speed to get airborne

I don’t see this getting added for the same reasons emergencies aren’t in the game to be honest.

Yeah you are right about that part, I was more meaning the actual time it takes for the aircraft to clear the airport, because yes the aircraft gets airborne quicker, but the climb out in terms of ground speed is slower.

Also, why would this not be added due to the same reason as emergencies? The aircraft wouldn’t be getting damaged or anything? It’s just a part of real-world aviation.

I didn’t understand the emergencies part. I can see the slower landing and takeoffs determined by the wind (Might annoy a lot of players though ), but any need for animations or being buffeted about on landing would be a tough job for the devs to handle considering the current setup of landings. I’d love to see it though in 2035 when the tech is there for it lol.

You reminded me of this post I saw a couple of months back,

That would be great. Or emergencies or rejected take offs and go arounds
