A single runway, single terminal building airport situated in the West of Finland serving the City of Oulu, the fourth most populous city in the country. The airport can and has taken the A359 and A343 of Finnair regularly for charter flights.Runway 12/30 is 2,501m/8,205ft.
Terminal building has 4 stands with jetways, plus another 2 angled stands using the same jetways. It also has 8 other remotes stands for C/D class aircraft as well a fifth E class stand overlapping 3 of the remote stands. A small general aviation area is situated to the North.
Why should this airport be added to World of Airports?
An airport situated just under 100 miles from the Arctic Circle, with thick heavy snow in the winter and with a good amount of parking. The airport would also be a much more Northern one than we have in-game currently and would tick the box for Finland whilst also being small enough and unique in its environment.
Major Airlines & Routes
Finnair to Helsinki and with charter flights to the Americas and Asia using the A359/A333 and previously the A343 and MD-11.Discover offers a route to FRA, airBalitc to Riga and seasonally Aegean offers flights to Greece.
Previously Dutch Corendon offered flights to Greece pre-pandemic, Lufthansa offered flights to Munich which ended in 2025, SAS offered flights to Stockholm and Norwegian flew to HEL plus seasonally to the Canaries.
Blue1 used to operate flights until around 2012 and Air Finland flew charters from there in the 2000s and into the 2010s.
Potential local airlines aside from Finnair could include Air Finland as above, Finncomm, FlyBe Nordic and NORRA.
Unique Features or Challenges
Snowy winters are a big challenge here requiring regular ploughing during the winter snowstorms as well as long taxi times for one end of the runway and potential queues if waiting for takeoff at the 30 end due to the terminal lying to the East.
