Why should this airline be added?
Pacific Airlines was established in December 1990 and began operations in April 1991 with a start-up capital of US$2.47 million. It was the first carrier to be established in Vietnam.
In 2007, Qantas acquired an equity stake in Pacific as part of its plan to expand low-cost airline operations in Southeast Asia through Jetstar. The deal was finalized in July, with Qantas purchasing an 18% stake for US$30 million. In May 2008, the airline changed its name to Jetstar Pacific Airlines.
Initially, the airline operated with a small fleet of five B734s. By 2013, the entire B734 fleet was retired and replaced by newer, more modern A320 and A321 aircraft.
Despite the airline’s continuous expansion of its flight network, its financial situation was not particularly promising. By 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic prompted Qantas to withdraw its entire investment from Jetstar Pacific; the carrier reverted to its former name, Pacific Airlines, and began operating as a subsidiary of Vietnam Airlines.
This is an interesting airline that should be included in WoA; since Jetstar Australia, Singapore, and Japan are already featured, adding the Vietnam branch is quite necessary.
