And more to the point, US strikes on Iran. We are absolutely the country at fault here unfortunately.

I do wonder what will end up happening with emirates, Qatar, gulf air, etc. This strikes me as something that has potential to go for ages.

I’ve been keeping my eye on flight radar on that area and I’ve seen many of the airplanes from Ettihad, Qatar, flydubai, emerates and others fly outside to other airports to continue operations somewhere else.

Saudia is still flying so must be making a killing on people flying to and from the region, same with Oman.

And I won’t get into the politics of the whole thing, I do enjoy learning about geopolitics and have had an interest in this sort of thing for quite some time. The US is at fault regarding the airspace closing as they kicked it off but blame for the whole thing is exceptionally smudgy and depends on who you’re speaking too. Anyway, enough politics from me

The airspace will be closed at least until tomorrow as per Etihads website

Dubai (DXB) has reportedly been hit by a drone strike leaving 4 staff injured and minor damages to the terminal. Thankfully no casualties though.

Kuwait Airport was struck earlier too, seems the drone operator saw an airport and assumed it to be the Air base a few miles further inland. No injuries either.

My main worry is the big airline hub and airliners dont go into a time of selling aircraft due to the amount of revenue and money they are missing from this war. Like Emerates, Ettihad and Qatar are all going to potentially take a cost on this war if their hubs dont reopen unless the airlines start buying contracts to Asia and USA → Europe routes for now.

my main worry is how many fatalitys there might be (im praying not many)

i would be stunned if it were not a high death count for this war, SO many countries have already been struck and missiles have been falling on major cities. It’s not a good situation, for sure.

Oh, im sure they are going to take massive hits on financial status, all of them will have been down for at least a few days which may be enough to erase the entire year’s profits. The thing to keep in mind is that these airlines are partially or fully state-owned, which means they are backed by massive royal oil money, and so unlikely to be destroyed in this war. They also have experience operating around warring areas, even if the particular scenario of their main bases being taken down is new.

Will most certainly effect it, I can’t see this lasting that much longer without either escalating or ending. Emirates Qatar and Etihad will continue as they are owned by the governments or royals. Might not be profitable for near future (when they resume flights) but they will (most likely) become profitable again, hopefully.

Both Emirates and Etihad are UAE “Royal” owned. Emirates is Dubai Emirs and Etihad is Abu Dhabi Emirs. I say “royal” because it’s the government of each Emir and through that a sovereign wealth fund.

Alright, thanks for the clarity!

I was supposed to go to DBX in May

My mate said he has a holiday booked to Dubai for May as well. Likely the war won’t but it’ll be a lot safer than now and the risk will be less by then as I don’t believe Iran has the drone and missile stockpiles to keep smacking the Gulf states up until then. Obviously there will still be the risk of random strikes and the proxy forces in the likes of Iraq and Yemen may still try to throw stuff at these countries too so it’d depend on how you feel. The airlines will be back up and running though no doubt.

Could still happen tho

My only concern is if China decides to offer more than moral support to the Iranian Regime. I could see them continuing to funnel missiles and drones to Iran in order to further deplete America’s stockpiles and gain a sizable munitions advantage in a potential invasion of Taiwan. The long term implications of that have the potential to be pretty dire.
