Airport Name and ICAO/IATA Code
Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (ICAO: KSDF / IATA: SDF)
Location (City, Country)
Louisville, United States of America
Airport Type & Size
One of the most important cargo hubs in North America. Often named UPS Worldport.
The airport handles roughly 4.6 million passengers a year and handles roughly 6.7 billion pounds of cargo a year.
It has 3 runways in total. 2 parallel ones and one that crosses both of them.
It can handle plane sizes up to E and F planes. And thereโs an overload of D stands (100+). This is mainly for cargo. The pax stands are nearly all C stands.
Why should this airport be added to World of Airports?
Itโs the third-busiest cargo airport in the USA and the sixth-busiest in the world in terms of cargo traffic. Itโs the biggest hub of UPS Airlines (thatโs why itโs called UPS Worldport) and could be a nice addition as a new cargo focused airport (to have great connections with LEJ).
Major Airlines & Routes
Cargo: UPS Airlines. Serves pretty much the entire United States, up to Anchorage and Hawaii. It also serves some international routes like CGN, STN, DUB, DXB, Canada and Mexico.
Passengers: Southwest, Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, Spirit Airlines. Only domestic flights. Like big West Coast cities, East Coast cities and the Southern states.
Unique Features or Challenges
Very large central cargo building. Plenty of space for widebody cargo operations, with a bit of domestic passenger flying mixed in. A nice mix up from the passenger heavy airports and gives a good connection point with LEJ.
