Stand big or small & plane type?

So I’m wondering what is the difference in function for the big and small stand areas in green?

Also am I right about the tab that opens this area that the planes by the advanced buildings…the square is freight and the other is passengers?

Hmm looks like the far left is passengers and the other is freight?

So both of those are passenger stands. The ones on the left can take small and medium sized aircraft. The ones on the right are for large sized aircraft. The large is bigger because it needs that size for parking.
You are correct about the tab. You need the advanced handling to be able to build any other size than small.
