SYD - Conversation

How long have you been playing? It looks like you’ve basically unlocked all stands.

I’d like to know as well

I am also really enjoying this update, no big things besides the “missing” L stands at T2/3 (Stand D10 and D11). And idk if anyone mentioned it yet, but we have some stands at T2 and T3 that are only S ingame, although they can size wise clearly handle M too. those are D1, D8, D9, D54, D56, D52 and D44.
But once again, these are minute things the rest is amazing imo :heart_hands:

I’ve played for an hour or so. I just sold some planes in my stock so I got everything unlocked.

I’ve really been enjoying SYD! The devs have 100% cooked on this! This is my first impressions:

The Good:

  • The Modeling is quite good! I can’t speak to if its realistic, but it’s enjoyable to look at – which wasn’t my first impression with LHR, so thanks for attention to detail!
  • 2D mode works! When LHR released, you couldn’t see any stands in 2D mode. I’m really glad to see that oversight not being replicated here.

Room for Improvement

  • Local Fleet Diversity – this seems to be a problem that’s coming around in recent new airports is how few local airlines we are able to get. I understand that this is balancing to a degree realism and quality of life, but I’m a little tired of Rex and Link SF34s and Qantas DH8Ds. Variety would be good. Some recommendations that don’t fly into SYD proper, but are regional that so including them wouldn’t be game breaking:

    • Airnorth E170 – hub Darwin
    • ASL Australia B463F and B738F – hub Bankstown Airport, Sydney; we also have no S cargo contracts to select so this fills a hole in our contract options!
    • Bonza B737M8 – based Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast. Melbourne; I know they went out of business this year, but we have other old airlines in the game as contracts, so why not?
    • Nexus DH8D – hub Perth
    • National Jet Express – B463F, E190, DH8D
    • Pel-Air – SF34F
  • The premium pass is a little light on L/X planes for its cost and how remote SYD is of an airport. S/M planes don’t allow us to connect to players so the pass, while still 100% worth it, isn’t the best value.

  • Finally, my biggest issue with SYD is how limited we are in making contracts with other players. I know that getting airports connected takes time as more airports are added, but I hop that more airports are added in closer vicinity to SYD so that the multiplayer aspect can be more effectively emphasized.

Good update, thanks a ton devs! And I’ll also repost the specific ideas in the appropriate thread for that.

Cheers all!

Unless you can prove any of those planes actually fly into SYD the devs might not consider them, speaking from experience

The devs logic for this seems so inconsistent to me. We get TONS of international flights and regional flights that don’t exist IRL, and we got a UKish flight into LHR that doesn’t actually exist IRL in Blue Islands. Where they use the “not IRL” flight logic has been so hit or miss lately, that I’m not sure there is a logic to their decisions…

It’s not a logic I really agree with anyways. The devs have said that they won’t consider adding airports in the same regions as other airports. I would guess that this excludes another Australian airport at this point. So for folks who enjoy these smaller airlines, adding them in as regionals people can purchase is really the only way for them to actually be seen in game, which in my opinion is far better than just chucking them away and never bringing them back.

I will say we knew there wouldn’t be much connectivity going into this

100% Fair, and I agree. It’s more feedback on how the devs choose airports as opposed to feedback on the specific airport.

For example, if they had chosen Perth for the playable airport, we could’ve had a bigger variety of connections to player airports.

But – SYD isn’t the only airport with this issue. NGO is also a struggle for connections, though not as bad. With this info, I hope we can bring attention to the devs that an airport in the South Pacific / Indonesia / Monsoon Asia region would vastly improve the gameplay long term at this airport.

So i have a big question….why can you in amsterdam only have contracts with a tui 787-8 and not with an klm 787-9, Heatrow also only 787-8 from british airways and not an 787-9

You’re right

They couldn’t release 2 at once. So if they were going to release something in Australia, something had to give with connectivity.
All I will say is that I know the devs would not have released an orphan airport without a longer term plan in place. Because connections are important, but they had to start somewhere with this one.

I missed this post but I can’t understand why the added UAL and AAL but leave out DAL. How can you leave one of the big three out

One thing I hate about Heathrow is that it takes forever to land all the planes (even though a single runway is used for landing operations in the real world). However, in the case of Sydney, I really hope you guys can make it operate landings in two runways, and that’s also how it works in the real world.

My suggestion, from a technical point of view that’s easily achievable, is to keep 16R as how it operates now, and make runway 16L also available for landing, and make planes landing in 16L only taxi to Terminal 2 and 3, following the same taxi path as planes landing in 16R but end up in Terminal 2 and 3.

Cheers
