I recently changed my username in Google Play Games, but it hasn’t changed in the game. Is this a known issue, or are there more steps that I’m missing?
It doesn’t change automatically. Devs are working on a feature, or will probably be working on a feature, where you can change your username for example with gp.
I think I’ve seen them mention somewhere that you can’t contact them anymore either to change your username. So I would suggest to wait if they will implement this in the future.

You have to read my full quote. Not contact them anymore to change your username. You can still send in suggestions I am sure. I think they just don’t handle username changes anymore
