IATA: WO / ICAO: WOA / Callsign: WORLD

:globe_showing_europe_africa: Country of Origin
:united_states: United States of America

:airplane_departure: Aircraft Types Used (from those available in WoA)
B744F (747-400F)(4 operated),

MD11 (McDonnell Douglas MD11)(8 operated),

(Retro livery)(What a superb livery),

MD11F (McDonnell Douglas MD11F)(11 operated),

Classic 747s mentioned;

B742 (747-200C) (3 operated) (Would make for a good event livery, none were fitted as far as I can tell with the side cargo door so it looks like a regular passenger aircraft),

:pushpin: Why should this airline be added?
An airline that operated from 1948 till 2014, serving passenger destinations as well as charters for the likes of the US military, while also operating regular cargo flights worldwide. Would be a cool airline to add into the game, especially as it shares its ICAO with the games name .

Hah! I’d love to see this lol

Why did this airline go out of business? (I’m curious that’s all)

Seems to have been a mix of losing its military contracts and the housing market crash of 2009 spelt the end for the airline in 2014. The intellectual property was purchased by investment group 777 partners but they’re mired in all sorts of legal problems worldwide (Currently under investigation by the US Department for Justice for money laundering) and they were the owner of Bonza which went bump in 2024. Though they did launch a website which is still up atm - World Airways - A New Brand For 2018 - World Airways

And they own Flair Airlines of Canada so if they ever do relaunch it it might be a success but who knows.

Oh flair airlines! I thought Westjet owned flair?

WestJet actually created Swoop to compete against the eventual Flair though that didn’t last long. Swoop was reintegrated into WestJet main. WestJet also acquired Sunwing and merged them into WestJet main.

So flair is not Westjet… swoop, Sunwing are Westjet what about encore?

Encore is WestJet’s regional operator similar to how Jazz is the regional operator for Air Canada. Fully owned subsidiaries both. Separate AOC allows for different contracts with unions between the regional and main airline which helps to manage costs.

So encore is westjets version of air Canada express? And Sunwing is like air Canada rouge? Ok that actually makes alot more sense!
