:bullseye: What is your suggestion?
Make ultra-short flights from HKG (especially to CAN) available for purchase as airline contracts

:hammer_and_wrench: How would it work in the game?
Lower the distance threshold for purchasable AI contracts, so for example CAN (or even MFM) is a purchasable destination

:balance_scale: Why is this a good idea?
IRL, not only does the HKG-CAN route exist, it’s even operated by widebody planes, so I feel like it’s not a stretch to add it in-game. Eventually it could become a local widebody route when the devs find the workaround for that, but in the meantime it would be nice to have.

Here’s a screenshot from flightconnections.com, showing direct flights out of HKG. Apparently, there are scheduled flights to both CAN and MFM. Interestingly, it also shows Shenzhen as a destination but with no actual flights to be seen, so that’s probably just a mistake.

This is a symptom of a larger problem. The available contracts just aren’t realistic. Some planes that are really used aren’t there. Planes that aren’t really used are there. Plus every time we get more plane types, the local/regional/international drawing gets more devalued with more smaller planes and lower chances of big planes. I think the game has simply evolved past the current contract system and it’s time for a total rework that includes real routes like the OP.

That’s cargo flight by SF Airlines.

I don’t have HKG as I’m doing it in order and I’ve nearly unlocked Santiago, but what aircraft are missing?

Don’t think any plane is missing entirely, it’s just the fact that you still can’t get local widebodies on any routes, even though it has been promised to us by the devs before the update. But there are missing destinations (from HKG), like CAN and MFM. It’s probably because they’re just too close, but there are flights IRL so it’s not realistic the way it is right now

Widebodies on short haul routes.

Did I misunderstand what the map was?

I thought that was only a temporary thing during the coronavirus?

If you make this post for HKG you might as well make it for all airports because all of them suffer from this

Regardless of the specifics of this case in HKG, I think you are right. The current system just doesn’t feel like it works anymore.

You start the airport from scratch from small to big, So get why no local widebodies.

But they’re not there at all. If they were in regional or international, that would make sense.

Has it really ever worked though? I’ve always found it odd that some contracts from Alaska and Hawaii to IAD were considered international by the game for example. I get its a distance thing, but it’s always been a quirky system at best.

I’m not entirely sure how to deal with this outside of routes that do exist but can’t be replicated in game should 100% be added to serve the players who care about this when purchasing contracts.

On the other hand, I don’t see unrealistic routes options as being an issue…. not all of us care about having our airports follow real life super closely. I personally play with 85-90% player contracts and the remaining contracts that I keep are to destinations that hold some sort of memorable value and planes that I’ve flown on frequently, or are just liveries that I like. I’d rather have the option to fulfill these goals in as few AI planes as possible as opposed to removing unrealistic routes. This does mean the local-regional-international rolls get diluted, but… not sure how to recommend a system that displays marked improvement over the current one and serves the broadest segment of the player base.

Maybe they get added on the next update.
