Why should this livery be added?
Jet 2 operated 2 A330-200s on lease from AirTanker, the refuelling arm of the RAF sort of at arms length so its own company but not really. Would be a big lad to have in Jet 2’s fleet giving them some extra reach and being able to visit more playable airports worldwide. They have been used on and off every year since 2017. A regular at MAN and other UK airports.
I’ve done 5 flights on Jet2s leased A330s, 4 on AirTanker and 1 on World2fly.
When I first flew on the A330 I had G-VYGM (which at the time was missing its logos at the front of the fuselage) and flew on G-VYGL on the return leg when VYGM went back to have its missing branding added. Flown on VYGL twice since then, both in the full A330 livery.
An interesting side note, G-VYGM and G-VYGL (kind of) have different liveries. VYGM has grey engines whilst VYGL has white engines.
Hopefully these get added, as they even made it as far out as EWR one winter, so you could argue it’s not exactly too unrealistic to use them at IAD, although having another European airport they could fly to would be great.
I wonder, do they get repainted when off-lease into the grey for the refuelling ops or are they only used for ferrying troops and such around? Also, didn’t know about the EWR stretch so IAD is definitely not too far out for them. Would be nice to have them at a Canary with the likes of Monarch’s A332’s.
No they stay white and used by Air Tanker, if they was going to RAF then they would go grey. But think this contract with RAF needs to be scrapped and RAF have their own including fitting them with a boom so they can refuel our American built aircraft.
