Airport Name and ICAO/IATA Code
Manchester Airport (ICAO: EGCC / IATA: MAN)
Location (City, Country)
Manchester, United Kingdom
Airport Type & Size
Third busiest airport in the UK, regularly handles up to Category F aircraft and has previously handled Category G aircraft. MAN has 3 passenger terminals, 2 runways and multiple hangars.
Why should this airport be added to World of Airports?
Manchester is an airport which has become internationally recognisable amongst aviation enthusiasts, being the home of very well known spotting locations and having had a diverse range of based and visiting aircraft. The airport also offers a different experience when compared to LHR, having a large number of low cost and leisure airlines and an interesting terminal layout offering some additional operational interest.
Major Airlines & Routes
Base for Jet2, TUI Airways, easyJet, Ryanair, Aer Lingus UK, Virgin Atlantic and defunct airlines such as Thomas Cook, Monarch, First Choice and Flybe. Airport has routes to various destinations in Europe, North America, Africa and Asia.
Unique Features or Challenges
Parallel taxiways, shared stands, dual runway operations (departure and arrival runways), currently undergoing a major transformation to improve capacity, home to the Runway Visitor Park, home of numerous preserved aircraft, including British Airways Concorde G-BOAC.
Iโve always thought it makes a good alternative to LHR, and itโs somewhere which Iโm sure the vast majority of aviation enthusiasts are aware of. Like someone mentioned in the old suggestion threads said, itโs a good chance to have an airport develop over time as well with the latest extension to Terminal 2 nearing completion. You also have the advantage of the vast majority of aircraft and liveries for the Airport are already in game, you are only really missing the Thomas Cook A321s, Jet2 and TUI 757s, Jet2 A321 and Jet2 A330.
Saying that I am pretty bias to this as it is my local airport.
So do East Midlands airport then maybe they will when they redo the B757, not fussed about Thomas Cook, do we have leased aircraft in the game? Otherwise you wonโt be getting a Jet2 (Airtanker) A330.
The chance of getting an Jet2 (AirTanker) A330 Iโd say is very low anyways as itโs currently useless for the game, but despite it being leased itโs been in the fleet for a while now and a consistent sight at MAN, so itโs a case of itโs a leased aircraft but a much longer lease than just for the summer. Thomas Cook would be nice for variety I think, especially as we have the A330 already.
Hey, East Mids is still MAG airport, so I guess it countsโฆ
Absolutely, I remember flying on Monarch on a 757 to Sharm El Sheik and an A300 back, and they would be really useful for INN as well. Another perk with MAN is that TaiModels I believe have modelled it already (Iโm not sure if the devs are still working with them for in game airports though as it hasnโt been mentioned for a while) and a lot of the liveries already exist for it.
This airport would be a pretty cool addition though I can imagine that the taxi to/from the expanded Terminal 2 could be pretty hectic. If the airport is filled up, there will be a lot of aircraft waiting and holding points, would be interesting to see how it would play out in-game.
From what I know a parallel taxiway is planned for when the second pier opens so there should be an aircraft going in each direction without too much of an issue as the remote stands are being removed and eventually rebuilt where the cargo terminal currently stands.
I think it could be interesting though, as you have the added bonus of managing the flow of aircraft coming and going, so the airport should look pretty busy quite a lot of the time with aircraft always moving around.
yeah second pier is due to open soon but not started on the dual taxiway yet. i agree though it will be so much more fun managing that as we will have to manage when to pull planes in. the only thing that the devs would have to stretch would be when the incoming plane detects on outgoing. right now if anything is taxiing down taxiway echo the the inbound planes hold below the control tower. but would definitely make it more fun. And then have specifics for where AC cross runway 1 to head to 2. TAS manchester have some great aerodrome charts on there to use that would help that. updated to May 25 aswell
