Prg remodel most likely but no idea of new airport. Anchorage was considered and it seems to me a strong candidate to release alongside the cargo update, but nothing confirmed.
I think the community is very divided. Some prefer quantity and variety in location, some prefer quality and variety in airport design. Both sides have merit but it is the latter that seems to have been more vocal and that the devs seem to be leaning towards. I personally think generics stray away from the intent of the game, and it strikes me as not necessarily a bad thing. Also, they were created to speed development, but with new devs added to the modelling team, it might just not be necessary anymore.
Prague is going to be remodeled, thatâs what the developers have said. After the A340 testing phase has already begun, Charlie mentioned it in a recent post here on the forum. in a comment,
Also, Iâll remind about this page:
don´t forget, that the team is now also developing other games outside of WOA, like scrap it. Look this year, we havenât received a new airport yet this year, although one of the dev blogs stated that at least 4 new airports per year are to be expected. That is the reason, why i postet this one month ago: General Pre-Release Discussion - World of Airports / Community - Flyboys.Games forum
I couldnât understand the discussion about CNN and about the generic airports generelly. The developers clearly stated what we can expect from a generic airport. The layout doesnât perfectly reflect real-world conditions, but if the community embraces the airport, it can be expanded into a fully-fledged airport at a later date. And it was like this, with CNN there was no surprise for me⌠I find it a shame that the idea was so poorly received, especially since generic airports could have filled in the gaps on the world map (think Africa!), particularly in areas where a fully developed airport isnât expected. But of course, I respect everyone elseâs opinion!
And letâs also remember that the devs are not required to tell us anything. While it is awesome to know what is coming, sometimes a surprise is nice also. Also, this is a game mainly for mobile devices that are designed to fit in your pocket. While these devices are powerful, they are not powerful enough to have 1:1 details for everything. So, letâs just appreciate what we have, not complain about what we donât have.
Not everyone understood that it wasnât going to look like the real-life airport, but they criticized it quite a bit, and most of them were wrong. Very few of us knew it wasnât going to look like the airport. It was original, but most players criticized it harshly, and donât deny it because it was true. Unfortunately, it seems that generic game idea will no longer be implemented due to the criticism.that there were some very ugly ones on the part of the majority.
It wasnât that people didnât know that the airport wouldnât look like it does in reality, but the lack of resemblance is why a lot of people were against the concept of generic airports.
No, it said the target was 3-4 per year, which is very different. They are still on pace for that, and they are actually on pace for 4 too, considering inn has released already and ZRH is looking like before end of second quarter.
Ah ok, interesting: INN counts as a new airport? Then all remodeled airports will count as newâŚ
Not as a new airport, no. But it definitely is a significant outlay of resources towards an airport remodel, which absolutely counts towards that.
does this mean the update is getting closer?
Said it before and Iâll say it again: Iâm not against generic airports, but I donât want fantasy airports.
At the very least:
- the taxiways, runways and aprons need to be in the right place, and
- the buildings need to be in the right place with the right footprint.
Generic: textures (on everything), building blocks to recreate shapes, equipment etc.
Even then itâs a dilemma.
Imagine your local/favourite/childhood/whatever airport getting the generic treatment. You then realise your airport will not receive reality status, and to add insult to injury you donât even recognise it!
remodules take a lot of resources, not as much as a new airport I assume, but in a sense it is still a lot where it is included.
last year we got
- CNN
- Remoduled IAD
- updated SYD
- SCL
- GRU
- HKG
Wasnât this is 2024 Christmas update with MSY? And donât forget HKG!
I feel like itâs fair to count INN as essentially a new airport. Between the new D stands, multiple runway directions, a redone model, and new vehicle skins pretty much every aspect of the gameplay and experience was touched. Thats very resource intensive. My only beef with the INN update was I wouldâve liked to see a new camera or two added.
Edit: I forgot that they didnât add the missing contracts to the map⌠so maybe two beefs
.
Honestly, if we get 2 new and 2 remodeled airports per year, thats pretty awesome. I think a lot of the older airports donât get played as much and it isnât always a size issue, itâs a lack of feature parity with the new airports.
I thought HKG was 2024, but i might have been wrong, but that still puts my point in front that we got 1 Generic airport and 3 new airports and two remodules which equals to about 4 new airports and 2 remodules. 2:4 ratio
if the devs were to say 4 airports per year and occasional remodules over the same year that would be like saying they will produce ZRH tomorrow and have been working on two completely new aiports already that will come out before 2027.
but I figure that remodules are apart of the addition of new airports so we are kinda on track for the 3-4 ratio. But on the other hand, we were blessed with 3 new airports and 2 remodules last year. which was 2:3 ratio
This year we have gotton 1 remodule and abt to get a new airport 1:1 ratio, so its either a ticking clock on the next airport teaser or they will shift main focus on airline liveries and airplanes.
@CJ_RVWilliams I would be on your side for that. Because we are on the 1:1 ratio and Prague on the list will make it 2:1 ratio meaning the next airport would be 2nd half of the year and that would be a somewhat good ratio to work with in the next several years.
I recall hearing that airports in Africa werenât profitable enough to justify implementation. While many airports have been added as destinations on the continent, the reality is that even medium-sized aircraft from outside regions canât operate there due to seating capacity constraints. To make the most of available assets, placing generic airports in Africa seems like a reasonable compromise that balances both realism and expanding the number of playable airports and routes.
Of course, Iâm generally in favour of the trend towards realism.
However realism shows that there is airports all over the world including Africa ![]()
