General Pre-Release Discussion

Comparing ZRH to HKG, I can say its better in nearly every way. HKG looked good, it felt alive whereas airports like LHR really don’t, but HKG’s problem is its just another massive hub, too spread out and makes it hard to track whats going on whereas ZRH you really feel you’re in-control. HKG’s redemption in my eyes is Cargo City which is 100% awesome and I have 0 complaints haha. But Zurich really is something special, even if being me I’d love loads more liveries and airlines lol. I’m hoping whatever comes next has this same feeling of being busy, feeling lived in and alive and having options for play. I also feel its the first airport where most of the contracts on the European continent really work, like HOP!’s E145’s and the likes, you can just see them being there, parked up after a flight on a smaller route from the likes of Lyon. Anyway, this got away from your point very quickly lol. Next stop Manchester  (Will have the same vibes I promise).

I have to agree. ZRH is such a refreshing airport after a year or more of parallel runway major hubs. The crossing runways, the variety in local contracts, interesting layout, feels busy, great connectivity and with interesting enough demand numbers that you can’t spam A321neos across every close destination. It’s definitely one of if not my favorite airport in the game… really giving SXM a run for its money in my book.

i really have to agree with ZRH being a good choice, when it was first announced i was a bit surprised (mostly because i wasn’t expecting another european airport)
but as i looked into it more and realized its interesting runway and airport layout, placement in europe, and even the aircraft types it once saw and also still sees (Avro RJs, A340s, etc) made me really get the appeal and now that it’s ingame it definitely feels like a brilliant, fun addition

dont get me wrong, airports like HKG are also beautiful in the amount of detail and time that was put into it (for instance i really like the inclusion of T2), something that can be said about the recent airports/reworks and will surely hold true with future airports
though again, i still do really appreciate ZRH for it being, well, as i said, unique, detailed and even fun to play; it doesn’t feel like “meta” or a “grinding airport” and that makes it feel far less… “artificial”? at least to me

Gotta say… one of the things that got lost for me in this update a bit was the new economy system for player planes. Its made the B77L finally relevant as its the plane with the largest usable range in the game now, allowing for flights such as ZRH to SYD that are outside of the range of the in game A35K. This will mean a lot more airports will have excellent connectivity to all playable airports!

Does anyone have any ideas? I have 60 short- to medium-haul contracts at ZRH, and I’ve already set the landing and taxi speeds to the fastest setting. No matter how long I play, the number of arrivals doesn’t go down—after four hours, I still have 20 arrivals pending. I get the feeling that some planes never land; does the system prioritize incoming planes based on how long they’ve been waiting to land?

It might be as simple as you have too many contracts, and it is physically not possible to handle them all before they return

What you could do is schedule the contracts using the scheduler, and then use the prefer schedule in the tower delivery manager, and that should keep them rotating through much better. But thats a much more time consuming option than pruning some contracts.

So apparently, the blue smiling suitcase from zrh isn’t completely random. It’s the official zrh mascot Rolli Rollkoffer, which I didn’t even know zrh had a mascot. So it’s actually really cool that the devs included such a niche reference like that!

I kind of expected that, seemed a bit too specific to just be a random thing

I have to disagree with your point, if i added another airport in Europe i would put it in the South near Africa (since we still dont even have an African airport) like LPA, ACE or even FNC why add another large airport in Central Europe when we already have INN,BRI,PRG,LEJ and LHR a little further out.

And even did the devs says there doing 2 large airports then 1 small one, i feel like every airport we have gotten has to be large…

i actually do get your point and where you’re coming from; while i do really like ZRH and think it’s a great addition, it is undeniable that central europe at this point does have lots of content now

as such, i do think that ZRH should definitely be the final addition to that region for a while to give way for other regions, such as say canada or mexico, which would be really nice to see airports at
(canada especially has quite the fanfare now - just scroll up a bit and you’ll see what i mean lol)

however, i dont think it should restrict europe as a whole either; personally, if i had to choose the next airport for europe it’d probably narrow down to ARN or HEL for northern europe, and alternatively BCN or MAD for southern europe

but either way, i do see the point you’re making, central europe is absolutely packed with airports now, i think it’s good for quite a few updates imo

One of the charms of having all the Euro airports packed so tightly together is that it allows for the A and B planes to be more relevant for player connections outside of the E-Jets and Fokkers that are frequently used at SXM. It’s nice to see these guys carve out a little role and actually get used.

I’m confused by this though:

INN, BRI, and PRG are by no means large. LEJ is an airport that is quite small for pax, and moderately sized for cargo, so I wouldn’t call it large. And LHR isn’t Central Europe (and BRI is more southern Europe in my mind.). This actually fills a niche, comes with some nice new locals we don’t get elsewhere, and gives those of us who can’t stand LHR another choice for a Euro hub, plus the unique runway configuration makes it incredibly interesting imo. I think it actually fills in the gap quite nicely!

I definitely feel like a Western Europe (France / Iberian), Scandinavian (don’t sleep on KEF!), or an airport in the Balkan states and/or Greece would all fill out the continent nicely.

That said, I do feel like the regions I desire new airports the most in right now are:

  • North America — a preferably larger airport (ANC, PDX, SFO, or one of the Canadian hubs, are the highest on my list). With IAD being the only true hub in North America, it feels bare compared to the two in South America / Europe, and 3 hubs in Asia.
  • South America — a smaller non hub airport in South America to compliment our two large hubs down there. Viru Viru in Bolivia is one of my favorites down there just because of the amount of airlines it has that we currently don’t have in game. It would feel very different than GRU or SCL.
  • New Zealand / South Pacific - Christchurch is one of my cult airports, but more representation and connections for airlines in this region is high on my list.

Personally staying away from suggesting African airports based on Charlie’s post a while back that mentioned the economic challenges of airports in that region, and Asian airports just because of the amount of recent airports there.

i too would really love to see ANC or something like YVR, both seem like very strong candidates for what might come in the future
(ANC can be paired with the cargo update, back up the 747 family we just got and be perfect for 737s, and YVR could be the first canadian airport, of course also with 737s - maybe my Air BC that i suggested could also appear there… i can only dream for now though :p)

both also offer the capability for content like seaplanes to be added, and i believe both are pretty scenic airports too; i was blown away by the scenery details in ZRH, so i’d bet the scenery at such airports (if they are confirmed and added, of course) would look just as fantastic, if not better

at end of the day though, i’ll appreciate whatever’s going to meet us in future updates, just saying that like you, ANC and YVR are at the very top of my wishlist lol

I Personally agree that Christchurch would be a good pic, Mabe even BNE or CNE or somewhere close for a B-C contracts
