General Pre-Release Discussion

Considering you mention the discussion changed direction afterwards (I presume that’s referring to the discussion about the Canaries :joy:), then the likes of Ankara and Istanbul were being discussed prior.

Bit of a wild card guess, but could it be Antalya?

I’m honestly lost… :joy:

But if the Summit Air L410 isn’t a hint for the next airport, then that implies what follows the next airport is potentially from that region? Assuming we don’t end up with something like Lukla dropping on us out of nowhere like MSY.

Im going to place my guesses on Kathmandu or Lukla as the livery shows a nepalese flag on it

I think Charlie is implying at one point we had guessed correctly (hot) and then veered way off (cold). I think KTM or LUA based off his teaser photo. They would be relatively easier airports to create to compliment the L410 and would still allow the dev team to work on PRG and likely the next large airport update.

This is a fun game… I’m going to put in for YVR because:

  • Close enough to SAN (and for some, IAD and MSY) to allow a variety of B-class player to player routes
  • Twin otter - there was previous discussion of it, and while (I don’t think) a large number fly out of here, Harbor Air does.
  • 737 releases - Models and liveries are going to be released as they’re ready, Air Canada, Air North (including 737-400 and 737-500), and Canadian North (and probably others) fly out of here making some great model and livery alignment.
  • But the big reason - float planes. Completely new type of gameplay. Maybe some beavers or an amphibious caravan?

Lukla doesn’t really make sense for WOA, at least not when you consider player contracts, no matter how exciting the airport is.

I don’t think the Canary Islands or Turkey are options—wasn’t it said that the next airport definitely won’t be in Europe? Even though it’s obviously geographically tricky… the Canary Islands are closer to Africa than to Europe, even though they belong to Spain, and most of Turkey belongs more to Asia/the Middle East than to Europe. But that’s just splitting hairs.
Sorry if my off-the-cuff comments trigger anyone who disagrees

I’m curious to see what happens, and I think it’s funny that the community is being kept in suspense

KTM and Lukla were discussed for quite a few posts, Charlie’s wording seems to suggest the region was mentioned, but very briefly.
It leads me to believe it might actually be a hint for an airport in India (but something else than DEL, CCU or BOM which were explicitly mentioned), which was mentioned at one point, but then the discussion moved on.
A large part of India would be reached from Nepal by the L410.
Plus the Nepalese livery as a hint for a Nepalese airport would have probably been a bit too obvious

Only airport which got a tiny bit of mention regarding India was Kolkata, plus Dhaka in Bangladesh. The former I believe would be the better of the 2 but they’re both not exactly wow factor airports lol.

I’m still baffled haha.

I think India is unlikely bcoz they did say in the past that the region generates less income for them but who knows. I feel it’s Canada. Honestly the best airport from South Asia would be Del but there are others which are great too

But how to interpret Charlie’s statement then:

As I’ve said, as a hint for an airport within the L410’s range from Nepal, where the livery could still be used, but not directly within Nepal.

So an airport from India , Bhutan or Bangladesh is possible as per the hint

Paro could be an interesting shout, but I couldn’t see it myself. Something small yet scenic.

Otherwise I could only circle back to others ideas of it being Kolkata.

For me, the upcoming airport is Yellowknife. Since Summit Air is a Canadian airline based there, the clue Charli gave could point to that location—especially given the talk about it potentially being an airport in North America.

DEL was mentioned together with CCU by Philipp:

BOM would be just out of the range of KTM for the Turbolet.
I think Ahmedabad could also be a viable option.
I actually don’t think it’s DEL or CCU, because I hope Charlie would’ve said something if the airport was actually mentioned, rather than just its region, but maybe he wants us to suffer over this a bit more
Since charlie reacted with  to my previous post:

…I think it’s safe to assume it’s either India, or at least I’m right about the L410’s range out of KTM but not in Nepal thing, which would also include e.g. Islamabad:

Anyways, I’m not gonna wreck my brain over this anymore and just wait for the Devblog

I don’t know that we were far off in terms of region, maybe only by country and airports. A lot of mention of indian airports, dhaka, etc. Charlie liked @CJ_RVWilliams’s post about density of airports, so maybe something near cnn?

It could also go the other direction, towards thailand

No airline is operating L 410 in Yelloknive…

Come to think of it, I do remember that DEL was practically finished at one point. But I don’t know if it was ever officially stated why it fell through. I think it had to do with licenses. But I’m not sure. That makes me wonder: was it specific to Delhi, or was it a general problem with Indian airports that are faithfully recreated?

It’s been a long time. But who knows

I bet @Charlie is playing games with us and driving us crazy. In the end, it’ll turn out to be something completely different… New Zealand, Mexico, South Korea, Africa…

Just to throw a completely new airport into the mix: TAS (Tashkent) could also be a possible option. It is also close to Nepal and Uzbekistan Airways itself also operates a total of four L410s, two of which are currently parked.

I’m aware of that, but I recall the developers mentioning at one point that Yellowknife would be a perfect candidate for an airport featuring classic aircraft; given that the 737 family is coming, it would be an ideal location for its launch. As Charli previously mentioned, the L410 was set to launch alongside the PRG revamp, and the Summit Air livery is the only clue we have.
