General Pre-Release Discussion

I feel bad saying this, cause I do like them, but I totally agree, we need more a lot more mid-sized airports, like BRI, PRG, NGO, SAN, that kind of thing. Big airports are becoming tiring.

I’m just here to read the blog lol:joy:

I know Kubasan is working on it but his schedule is pretty full since beginning of the year. So only Kubasan knows.

There was a time when the devs were rotating through a variety of different airport sizes and alternating small single runway airports, mid sized airports, and large sized airports. I don’t feel bad saying I miss those days. The variety of fully modeled airports was nice. Now I do see Zurich helping with this as it has a fairly unique (to WoA) runway layout.

But I hope single runway small airports aren’t dead in the water except for as generic airports or remodels. I’m on record many times here saying how little I like generic airports as they just don’t fit why I play the game. and while remodels are nice and needed… (pretty much every airport pre MSY has some glaring issues to fix – and I’d consider IAD a high priority because of how many people play that airport) variety in airport size and layout across new airports is important and single runways shouldn’t be ignored!

No single RWY airports are not dead

Looking forward to them. Hub airports are great if you like racking up silver coins but I do like the complexities of small airports, having to get aircraft in and out with actual thought. Plus, being me ofc, can allow for some really pretty livery lineups especially if we’re talking Europe

single runway airports is kinda what I have been looking for about the past year. Like we another airport like BRI or INN and a bit larger than SXM. Kinda hoping they move their focus to single runway airports closer to the asia pacific region like DPS or MNL and yes I know Manila is getting a new airport sometime and manila has two runways but those overlap so techincally only the main runway one would be used.

Hence getting a single runway airport in Africa would be fantastic

CNN have one RWY and its something between BRI and INN.

I don’t think many of us consider generic airports as what we are looking for with single runway airports, at least in the way CNN was implemented. The airport maps are’t realistic and the models aren’t realistic. I just don’t see these as a replacement for fully modeled single runway airports like INN, BRI, NGO, SAN, and SXM. And I don’t feel like they are that good of a supplement either.

Agreed. Single runway airports don’t always have to be tiny. Sometimes I appreciate those medium sized but still niche medium sized airports in random parts of the world.

I didn’t include CNN because it’s a generic airport.

@CJ_RVWilliams I completely agree with you on that matter. And yes, @Pizza_711, I think it would be good to have single runways, but aren’t just tiny like SXM and INN. Larger single-runway airports are kinda the theme I wanna see. like Manila MNL, Bali DPS, Auckland AUK, Perth PER, Penang PEN, Port Moresby POM, dijbouti DIJ

Auckland AUK, Perth PER […] Port Moresby POM

I’m a huge believer that a smaller airport in Oceania should be prioritized in order to improve connectivity with SYD as anything with less range than an A21NY can’t be used for player connections. While these are interesting airports, I do want to bring people’s attention to Christchurch. because of its hosting of the International Antarctic Center, it is my personal pick just to give use something really unique contracts (and an Antarctic destination for cargo planes would be quite fun!).

In my opinion it is so great to hear, that you are investing in new team members for a faster development of airports and aircrafts! As Charlie said, these steps like the onbaording of them are not visible for us right now but its a very important step for the future. All in all it sounds really promising. I am very excited of what we will get in a few months, we just need a bit more patience. Thank you so much for the transparency and also for your work!

Speaking of Antarctica and single-runway airports, how about CPT?

Cape Town would be a nice airport to see, not too large as well. It does have 2 runways though.

I like the generics as long as it doesn’t take away any development from the normal airports. If it would, I’d rather forget them. By making them gold purchasable only, it can provide airports in regions that would never get them. CNN I feel isn’t very fun to play though but I don’t know if that’s due it being generic. I 100% agree with you on single runway airports, even dual runway as long as they’re not mega hubs like BKK, HKG or SIN. There’re some fantastic ones out there like Christchurch as you mentioned and others.

Rwy 16/34 is 1700m long and is used more often as a taxiway than as a runway

Does appear that way, was just going off what flight radar said haha. LHR had its 3rd runway in operation till 2003ish when it was made a full time taxiway, but before that it was a mix like it appears this one is.

I would like to see an airport in Africa, like CPT, CAI, NBJ and/or Pacific, like HNL, ANC, YVR or SEA.
