Hong Kong International Airport (ICAO: VHHH / IATA: HKG )
Location (City, Country)
Hong Kong, China
Airport Type & Size
As a 4F-class international aviation hub, HKG operates 3 parallel runways (fully operational since November 2024) and 2 terminals (T1 & T2), with plans for further expansions under the “Airport City” blueprint19.
Terminals: T1 focuses on global carriers and premium services, while T2 integrates multimodal transport (ferries, buses, and cross-border facilities) and commercial zones610.
Why should this airport be added to World of Airports?
Global Aviation Hub:
Strategic Location: 5-hour flight radius covers over half the world’s population, connecting Asia, Europe, and the Americas9.
Cargo Leadership: Ranked world’s busiest cargo airport for 13 consecutive years, handling 4.9 million tons in 202489.
Infrastructure Innovation:
Three-Runway System: Enhances hourly flight capacity from 70 to 102 flights, supporting complex air traffic management19.
Multimodal Connectivity: Links to 7 Greater Bay Area ports via “SkyPier” ferries and 24 city terminals, enabling seamless “air-to-sea” and “air-to-land” transfers49.
Dynamic Operations:
Diverse Fleet: Hosts A380s, freighters (FedEx Asia-Pacific hub), and China’s C919 (e.g., Cathay Pacific’s regional routes)37.
Peak Challenges: Manage 24/7 cargo operations and monsoon weather disruptions9.
Community & Cultural Impact:
Iconic Liveries: Potential unlockable designs like Cathay Pacific’s “Asia’s World City” theme or C919’s “Chinese Red” special livery37.
Major Airlines & Routes
Primary Hubs:
Cathay Pacific (Flagship carrier with 100+ destinations by 2025)57.
Hong Kong Airlines (Expanding to Australia, Canada, and Europe)78.
China Eastern Airlines (C919 operations on Shanghai-Hong Kong routes)3.
Key Routes:
Asia: Tokyo (NRT/HND), Seoul (ICN), Singapore (SIN), Bangkok (BKK).
Europe: London (LHR), Paris (CDG), Frankfurt (FRA), Istanbul (IST).
Oceania: Sydney (SYD), Auckland (AKL), Gold Coast (OOL)78.
Cargo Focus: Los Angeles (LAX), Dubai (DXB), Mumbai (BOM)9.
Unique Features or Challenges
Three-Runway Coordination:
Simultaneous Operations: Balance arrivals/departures across parallel runways while avoiding cross-traffic conflicts19.
The Sky Bridge is the world’s longest airside bridge and allows the largest passenger aircraft, the A380, to pass under. I would love to see that in the game.
Honestly love HKG with great architecture and lots of heavy jets, but I don’t know if devs plan on Kai Tak will have any negative impact on its prospect.
If devs do want to have Kai Tak in the game rather than make it an individual series I would prefer to have the existing HKG as well… Just with a simple switch to select which will be active to ensure no confusion when interacting with other airports…
I was wondering if the game would release CLK
(if they really want to do it) after all the main construction works are completed currently at the airport, like the new T2
can’t wait to see HKG in this amazing game as HKG is one of the Asia avitation center of Asia(many airlines around the world ), devs can make the Skybridge and even make a view from the Skybridge(like the view from terminal in SXM), also it is be a big incredible thing that if devs can make the whole new Chek Lap Kok Airport which is including the new T2 terminal and three runways(I know I am greedy ), really hope to see it
Also, CES doesn’t have a hub in HK, nor does it consider HK as focus city. Instead, Cathay, Hong Kong Airlines, HK Express, Air Hong Kong and GreaterBay Airlines are the airlines that are local to HK and are their hubs. In terms of Keyroutes: TPE should be mentioned as HKG-TPE is the busiest International Route for many years including the past year
I think after this they’ll still want to do an airport in Indonesia to satisfy that community, but after that I think definitely Africa, hopefully either Egypt, Ethiopia, or South Africa
