LHR - Dual runway arrivals

Moving posts from 2.4.4 release notes. Thread is to discuss the idea of having 2 functional arrival runways at LHR.

But it doesn’t have dual runway arrivals all day though, only in the morning during the weekdays. One thing they do at LHR about 15:00 is switch the runways round so the runway they was landing on is now the one they taking off on.

In game is never going to perfectly recreate real life. But if we can make the airport taxi system make the airport feel more full and overall nicer, I’d take that any day. Because in real life airports run (sometimes) 24/7 and we can only play so many hours each day, paired with how planes are handled in a fraction of the real life time, it also makes airports feel empty. So I think unrealistic taxi systems are worth it.

Sometimes they do do duel landings when busy.

And they were landing on the other side aswell:

Mainly landing on the other side but.

This is my thought process on that and something I really hope is taken onboard. If it happens though, even just for a couple of hours a day, it can’t really be considered as unrealistic. The recent changes to MCT have proven that the big airports can indeed be busy when both runways are in use, and LHR is in dire need of that, even if it means departures still only use 1 runway. More arrivals, more planes and in turn more enjoyable.

Only if one runway been closed and their a backlog but most times is in the morning weekdays.

Don’t get why people moan, if you watch flightradar on LHR the game replicates it very well and with 6% I don’t find the landings short at all.

I would love to see one day airport runway ops change based on iRL time and weather just to have more variety in gameplay for each individual airport. Essentially allows each airport to become several different experience. Perhaps one day!

Because not thinking about IAD would also be a great option to fill it up

Yeah, you can say that, I also hoping that IAD in the path rework can make the four runways all operational

I’m sorry, what changes to MCT? Haven’t played it in a while

Also definitely agree on that. LHR is a ghost town no matter what you do and it’s pretty disheartening to see in my opinion

At MCT it has been separated into two smaller airports like at LEJ. Both runways can do takeoffs and landings now, depending on which side of the airport the stand is on

Also another realism would be having bigger gaps in long haul aircraft landing then the short haul.

If that was added in game, I genuinely couldn’t see it being received all that well. LHR is already really quiet compared to its real counterpart, so making the gaps even bigger just makes that problem more prominent.

However I saw LHR using dual runway arrivals yesterday afternoon (even if it was only 1 plane), and M planes going to T4 could vacate where this Air France did, slightly improving its flow of S & M planes.

That could quite possibly be what I saw. Lufthansa and loganair (and the BA I saw fly’s from T3 so yea)
They all parked on the same side if the runway they landed on so yea. Backs up your point I guess

It’s only seems to be the 220 that seems to do it there, seen it when Jerry from Big Jet TV filming. Obviously ITA moved to Gatwick so don’t see them anymore and I understand TAROM are moving to Gatwick as well, So maybe they turn off where AF 220 does will look on playback on flightradar.

WAIT??? Tarom are moving to Gatwick?
Baby bus time!

Apparently so, as TAROM have sold their slots to Qatar.

Hopefully they do make the move can’t imagine they would go to luton or stansted. Research time :joy:

Research is in.

I hope that tarom do fly to Gatwick even if its just the 737-700. Because in Europe they aren’t that common still.

Wonder when they will actually start.
