MDW - Chicago Midway 🇺🇸

MDW/KMDW - Chicago Midway International Airport

:globe_showing_europe_africa: Location (City, Country)
Chicago, USA

:chart_increasing: Airport Type & Size
about a square mile if not a square mile. somewhat regional airport with lack of international flights (though this can be resolved by WoA’s route diversity

:vertical_traffic_light: Why should this airport be added to World of Airports?
this airport is interesting to me since it is a rather small airport though it is busy most of the day. it also has four(?) runways which i believe would be excellently used for wind-based landings. they intersect of course. to have such a busy airport that is so small would be interesting to see in WoA, especially a Midwestern airport. i think it would fill a gap in the US in terms of playable airports. realistically this airport can take a B752 as the largest aircraft though there are some exceptions, a C17 that came here a while ago and an A300 on a sales tour years ago.

:airplane_departure: Major Airlines & Routes
as far as i know:

SWA/Southwest - flies just about everywhere in the US. some international flights

VOL/Volaris - flights to mexico

FFT/Frontier - some seasonal flights, some regular flights

DAL/Delta - almost exclusively flies to ATL

POE/Porter - Q400 flights to YTZ

VXP/Avelo - used to fly to HVN though they don’t seem to be flying in anymore

there also tend to be some charter flights to MDW, some United B738, Breeze A220, and even Air Canada jetz A320.

:world_map: Unique Features or Challenges
once more, the fact that this airport is a square mile and is busy is impressive in my opinion. it also caters to helicopters, GA and private jets. its area of operation is also interesting since MDW is surrounded by residential areas which make landings a bit more tedious seeing as aircraft can’t fly too low.

i was actually thinking of suggesting this, yet i was kind of on the fence about it, because it seems Southwest has a large presence there… and we have 2 similar airports which also have a large Southwest emphasis (SAN, MSY)

but at the same time this airport does have quite a unique layout, and to me it seems much more likely than the likes of ORD (mostly for performance reasons); additionally with Southwest having a large 737 fleet it could also be even better with the eventual 737 family update, so this does have quite a great case

though as a bonus, if they wanted to further spice up what the airport could offer, they could also add something like both of the “Midway” airlines as special contracts (see 1976 - 1991 airline and 1993 - 2003 airline), alongside even others such as ATA and Vanguard (might suggest this later tbh)

oh, and by the way here’s the airport chart

I’m in on this please do this looks great
