They allow you to send your planes to other players which helps them progress. Your levels on your contracts also automatically start on max level so you don’t have to compete the contract 40 times to get max level

do i get any income?
If it is your own fleet then you get a boost in how much you earn depending on plane type and destination, The B77W and B744 from what I’ve heard have the best rates. If it is another players plane you will get the regular amount of income.
You get the same amount of SP and XP no matter if it is your plane or another persons plane.

Unless you guarantee the other player is active and will send back your plane in time I would say do not bother.
Can you give a more detailed explanation for “not bother”? Player interaction with “own” planes is one great game enhancer. We have even have Alliances to stimulate that.

Well player interaction is a great thing but for progressing in this game and unlocking airports its very slow…

Ok, I hope that your impressions will change in the future. Otherwise you are going to miss a lot.
Very slow??? Player contracts are way faster than normal contracts. you get around 100 xp per L aircraft completion (from another players plane) which is great considering you dont have to have any regional/international stars to get them.

Do you know a place to find active players?
For example over here its a bit slow like for INN connections the last post is from 11 days ago:
I’m aware of discord but I’m a bit old and its very disorienting for me.
Most people tend to keep to alliances which there is a few of on the forum, there are many planes to be shared in them and if people are inactive they announce it

You can also ask for player contracts, You do that by creating a post asking for player contacts and maybe you will get some player contracts in the category of the airport you want the planes at.

Maybe some volunteers show up and help you out here. 
It’s beginning to look at lot like Christmas , so helping the “needy” is not unheard of
