I imagine in the long run they’ll make a profit on it, Emirates and Qatar will be a huge help…

The longer they take, the longer the A346 stays in our skies :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I mean, as I see it, Boeing needs the 777X to succeed. If it doesn’t, Boeing will have no new successful programs and nothing on the drawing board. Every year they can’t get it into service is more lost orders and more expense for Boeing. It’s not a good situation, for sure.

On another note, I really don’t understand how a mainline commercial pilot can mistake a taxiway for a runway. It’s absurd:

Oh, sir, this is not a runway! Warning: Other planes might use “your runway” too

This is me when playing infinite flight simulator

Yes it’s a bad mistake, but I see how it could have been made. The turn he taxied on and through is the same exact layout as the turn to the runway right next to it, so they likely looked almost exactly the same to the pilot.

You cannot imagine how even most experienced people may make mistakes due to relying on their routines and not double checking in their daily works. Sometimes you go blind and even fail to notice it. This applies to everyone, in any line of work.

Well it happens at takeoff and landing like when AC 759 was about to land on a taxiway.

A similar thing happened to Singapore Airlines 006 when they turned onto the wrong runway during a typhoon. Makes you wonder how frequently thing like this happen.

More frequently than you think though the majority of the time it’s noticed nearly immediately. It happens due to cockpit distractions, bad weather conditions, stress, tiredness, not following the correct procedure, bad communication with the tower and ground control plus many other factors.

A couple off the top of my head include the Milan Linate SAS crash was caused by a Private Jet mistaking a taxiway for another in thick fog and entering the runway as the SAS Mad Dog was taking off. I believe the Northwest crash at MSP was a combination of factors where they took off on the wrong runway which wouldn’t have been a problem except they had set up for a parallel longer one, I believe done due to a wrong turning and stress at being delayed and tiredness due to it being the last flight of the day for the crew. It can happen on landing too, an Air Canada A320 at SFO a few years back tried to land on the taxiway populated by several aircraft, only being noticed by the captain of a United 787 who saw them lining up with where he was sitting, it missed an A340 on the taxiway by single digit feet, can’t remember how much but was caused by tiredness. Also very recently a Nouvelair got the runways mixed up at Nice and tried to land on top of an EZY waiting for takeoff.
