As a highly emotional avgeek, I was genuinely upset to see the demise of Spirit Airlines. I’m not saying the airline standards were good, but it was such an iconic airline and it’s gone forever. It’s like losing Pan Am all over again (kinda).
Additionally, the sudden demise of Spirit is going to rock the North American aviation industry for a while. Having been America’s largest ULCC, Spirit’s shutdown has now created a massive void that I’m sure other airlines will scramble to fill. I’d expect Frontier, JetBlue, and perhaps Allegiant to capitalize on the sudden reduction of competition. Additionally, I imagine that FLL will become a battleground for dominance as JetBlue and Allegiant race to take over routes previously served by Spirit.
There’s been some talks but at this point some planes have already been returned to lessors and employees lost plus flights canceled. Also, nothing new today, and the last word from yesterday is that he wasn’t going to. Also, there really isn’t much he can legally do. Spirit is done at this point.
In other news, a United 767 from Venice appears to have nailed a street light and a bread truck on short final to Newark today. United says it is evaluating damage to the aircraft and how this happened. No serious injuries reported.
I would never tell you that if you put an ANA aircraft and Sichuan Airlines aircraft together for comparison you may find difficulties to understand how to world actually works
Ryanair is going to close 7 plane based at Berlin Base from October 2026 due to the aument of tax.
“All 7 Berlin based aircraft will in this case be reallocated to lower cost airports in other EU states that have abolished aviation taxes like Sweden, Slovakia, Albania & Italy.”
I have seen so many videos of the United 767 hitting that truck and road. I just really feel like its a near miss to almost being like the Asiana airlines tragety.
There was a still of the full aircraft over a lorry, from what appeared to be a CCTV camera nearby but I’m not sure if its real like most things on social media as no news source uses it.
why did they think landing short final on a runway next to an interstate was a good idea… and fact is the runway shouldnt allow landings that direction if that is the really close to the runway.
Tbf a landing on 29R is hard with a widebody, but that’s no excuse for hitting a truck… glad he only suffered minor injuries as that could have been a lot worse.
that… is quite low but why would an airport build a runway so close to a elevated highway? here in toronto the airport on the east and west side are elevated so that makes this accident happening here unlikely but… thank the lords that everyone is alright
